    OVERALL PURPOSE

    This role is ideally suited to a dynamic individual wishing to further develop their career in a leading international multi-family office looking to develop their corporate services related technical skills and build on their structured finance, accounting and taxation experience.

    The purpose of this role is to participate as part of a small team in the provision of a hands-on professional service to corporate and fund clients.

    The senior accountant will be responsible for all financial monitoring and reporting requirements within an allocated portfolio of corporate clients, ensuring that all client deliverables are met in a timely manner, as subject matter expert for structured finance related administration services to special purpose vehicles and trusts.

    Stonehage Fleming's corporate and fund client base comprises a diversified portfolio of securitisation SPVs, security SPVs, owner trusts, share purchase schemes, BEE schemes, investment funds and trading entities.


    Key ResponsibilitiesPRINCIPAL ELEMENTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Deal with, carry out, coordinate and facilitate the day-to-day required duties and functions of the structured finance administration, accounting, taxation and backup servicer services to Stonehage Fleming's corporate and fund client base, including:
    o Calculation agent function – determining the cash available for distribution and calculating the distribution thereof in terms of the Priority of Payments;
    o Payment agent function – disbursing the funds to the correct payees through STRATE and electronic banking;
    o Monitoring cash balances and investing excess cash in permitted investments;
    o Preparing periodic investor and rating agency reports;
    o Prepare and do detailed, second review of the management accounts and IFRS financial statements of complicated, higher risk structured finance and listed matters in terms of improving our standard operating model and risk management processes;
    o Attend or arrange for the relevant team members to attend, either in person or online, all audit committee and board meetings;
    o Manage the backup servicing function for a portfolio of structured finance clients;
    o Establish, document and apply standard procedures to facilitate the rendering of quality services to clients in a consistent, effective and efficient manner and exercise quality control to ensure that all calculations and reports conform to set standards;
    o Ensure continuous full statutory and regulatory monitoring and compliance of the clients as relating to the provided services, within Stonehage Fleming's operating model, systems, controls, processes, procedures and risk management requirements;
    o Ensure that clients' files (be it electronic or paper based) are organised, complete and up to date; and
    o Monitor the control environment & culture to ensure that controls are effective and efficient;


    • Coordinate and execute related taxation compliance services, ensure that our external service providers timeously, completely and accurate execute the taxation services we contract them to do - in order to improve service delivery and proactively manage and limit our related risks as a market required, one-stop corporate services provider;
    • Report on, document and perform any further tasks and special projects in respect of the team's performance, clients and services as requested by line manager.

    SECONDARY ELEMENTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Demonstrate Stonehage Fleming's values on a daily basis;
    • Ensure the highest level of service, quality of work and support to our corporate clients, the relationship managers, other areas or teams within Stonehage Fleming;
    • Ensure that client queries and/or complaints are dealt with efficiently and timeously, and escalated immediately where needed;
    • Diligently follow processes and procedures, working to set quality standards and keeping to agreed turn-around times;
    • Develop, build and maintain sound relationships with allocated clients, as well as with the relationship managers;
    • Provide ad hoc assistance with projects and analyses as required line management; and
    Recording all time spent accurately to facilitate invoicing and internal reporting.

    Reporting structure

    The Senior Accountant will report to the Head: Corporate Services (South Africa) or Manager: Corporate Financial Management Services, as the specifics may require.


    QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES


    Qualifications and experience:

    The Senior Accountant:

    • Is a CA(SA), SAIPA or CIMA registered accountant with at least 2-5 years post-articles experience in auditing or accounting, ideally in the professional services or financial services industry;
    • Accounting experience and experience in preparing IFRS annual financial statements;
    • Is a registered tax practitioner at SARS; and
    • Structured finance industry, loan book management, collections, credit risk experience or banking audit exposure or experience is an added advantage but is not a pre-requisite.
