Carl Buitendach
Accounting / Finance
About Carl Buitendach:
I’m a chartered accountant with external
audit and corporate finance experience in
the Oil and Gas, Retail, Infrastructure and
Financial Services sectors. My client
expertise ranges from small local
enterprises to large multi-national
corporations. I strive to be a professional
who provides a high-quality contribution
to an organisation whilst building strong
business relationships.
Experience
I’m currently an engagement manager
forming part of the EY Cape Town VME team.
Over the past two and a half years, I gained
experience in buy and sell side valuations,
private equity fund valuations, purchase price
allocations, fair and reasonable opinions,
capital asset valuations and impairment
assessments for financial reporting purposes.
I had the privilege of being exposed to
various industries, including Oil & Gas,
Financial Services, Infrastructure, Retail and
Manufacturing. My main tasks include
managing smaller teams of associates and
assistant managers, running client meetings
and performing certain administrative tasks
such as preparing proposals, drafting
invoices, setting up time budgets and
performing client acceptance procedures.
I have experience in evaluating and reviewing
valuation methodologies, performing various
valuation methods including discounted cash
flow valuations, multiple based valuations,
capital asset valuations, royalty relief method and multi-period
excess earnings method valuations. I have
also computed and reviewed several
discount rates for valuation purposes using
various methods such as the CAPM, stage of
life and synthesized approaches.
My experience further includes a deep
understanding for financial and trend
analysis, data manipulation and visual
presentations of findings.
I have also been involved in preparing
various project proposals. Through this I’ve
learnt to understand client needs and
identify possible solutions.
Our team frequently collaborates with other
strategy and transaction teams such as
Transaction Diligence, Tax and Mergers and
Acquisitions. This has given me the
opportunity to fully understand the deals
process and life cycle and the technicalities
around successfully concluding on a
transaction.
