    Research & Development Chemist

    Our client in the lubricants industry currently looking for a Research & DevelopmentChemist based at their head office in Meyerton to join their dynamic team.

    We have a new and exciting opportunity for someone with a background in Research Chemistry and Lubricant Formulation to join an independent lubricants producer and waste oil re-refinery in South Africa.

    You will need a strong technical background in chemical engineering, you will also have experience running a QC laboratory and formulating and testing lubricant additives and some commercial / customer facing experience.

    Typically, you will enjoy a combination of laboratory work, solving technical problems, and face to face interaction with key customers and suppliers.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage QC, R&D & Mobile Laboratories.
    • Manage staff within department.
    • Develop, update and implement R&D related procedures.
    • Ensure good laboratory practices.
    • Develop and optimise manufacturing processes.
    • Provide technical and quality control support within the organization and other stakeholders.
    • Develop new products and optimize existing products.
    • Plan and perform formulation work and technical service tasks as defined by the Technical Director and customer requirements.
    • Plan and perform experimental work, interpret, and report results.
    • Solve problems related to products and processes.
    • Support salespeople and customers with technical services also by participating in presentations, seminars and training.
    • Develop experiments and methods.
    • Effectively interact with customers and suppliers
    • Maintain and develop expertise in core technology and experimental procedures

    Educational Requirements and Skills:

    • A minimum Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering
    • A minimum of 5 years formulation and development experience in the Lubricants manufacturing sector.
    • Management experience in R&D, QC and Laboratories.
    • Expertise is Tribology.
    • Project management experience.
    • Confident in front of customers and suppliers.
    • Able to work independently as well as within a group.
    • A strong technical understanding of lubricant additives.
    • Experience or knowledge of waste oil re-refining technologies/processes.
    • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills at all levels.
    • Product and application knowledge.
    • Fluent in English.
