Description

Preferred supplier to mining industry as well as a diverse sector of specialised industries including general engineering, petrochemicals, building and civil construction, sugar mills, cement manufacture and water reticulation has a permanent vacancy for a Technical Manager (Chemist/Chemical Engineer). Must have solid experience in dirty chemical manufacturing facility with background in coatings, polymer chemistry/additive technology and experience in managing/supervising laboratory personnel and production output. Based on East Rand, Gauteng.

Requirements:


  • BSc/BEng Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Polymer Science/Relevant tertiary
  • Experience in coatings, surfactant/additive technology
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in R&D and chemical production /coatings environment
  • Minimum 3 years management/supervisory experience
  • SAGE Evolution 200 experience advantageous
  • Multiproject focused.
  • Basic commercial understanding of business and customer priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with advanced computer skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to generate and work with Excel models and implementing new business systems.
  • Power B1 knowledge preferred.

Duties:


  • Managing production output, R&D and colour Lab.
  • Manage Quality Control, R&D and Colour Lab personnel and workflow.
  • Manage employee's performance and training, being part of a mentor team.
  • Produce formulations and undergo full testing on new products for full optimisation.
  • Develop new products through smallscale formulation, pilot plants, and fullscale production.
  • Oversee Batch and process testing and verification.
  • Oversee department monthly stock takes.
  • Supervising of manufacturing process, specifically in highrisk and critical control points
  • Review and be responsible for MSD's, COA's & Data sheets.
  • Participate in planning process, including fiscal year tactical plan, budgetary expenses, project objectives, timeliness etc.
  • Establish safe chemical practices and procedures as it relates to the production.
  • Research, planning, and implementation of new programs and protocols in the company to improve production and/or quality.
  • Liaise with procurement and be present for supplier meetings on raw material purchases and ingredient sourcing, JIT purchases, substitution or raw materials for cost savings initiatives.
  • Customer complaint management reporting
  • Monitor formulations and give feedback to management on progress.
