    The Leslie lab is seeking a highly motivated research assistant to work on an exciting new NIH funded study investigating immune development in male and female children by studying vaccines responses in twin pairs. Females are known to be less susceptible to many infectious diseases and respond better to vaccination than males. On the other hand, they are also prone to autoimmune disease, suggesting a fundamental difference in the immune systems of males and females. However, it is not currently known when and how this develops in humans. This study will make use of sex discordant twin pairs to investigate how male and female immune systems develop during the first 1000 days of life. The RA position will be responsible for helping receive, record and process longitudinal samples from these twin pairs. In addition, they will help with setting up and running diverse assays, including high dimensional flow cytometry, in vitro simulations, multiplex cytokine profile and single cell sequencing. The position will require meticulous record keeping, excellent lab skills and dedication. In return, the candidate will receive hands on training and experience in diverse and cutting-edge lab techniques and the opportunity to participate in an exciting and international research program. For the right candidate there will also be the possibility to study for master's degree as part of the project.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • The candidate must possess an Honours or degree in biology, immunology or equivalent in related field.

    • Minimum Experience

  • 2 years research laboratory experience, preferably with samples processing experience.
  • Research experience immunology techniques preferable, particular flow cytometry.
  • High level of computer literacy.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Conflict resolution skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and management skills.
