    Description

    Our client has a big solar/substation project in Upington and is looking for a Construction Manager to start in March 2024.

    The Construction Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful implementation of solar and substation installations, managing construction teams, coordinating subcontractors, and maintaining adherence to safety, quality, and project timelines. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction management, renewable energy, and substations with qualifications in Civil or Electrical Engineering.

    Salary: Market related

    Closing date: Interviews will be scheduled before 2 February 2024

    Employment Type: Contract work

    Requirements:

    1. Construction Management Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in construction management, with a proven track record of successfully managing solar/renewable energy projects and substation projects from conception to completion.
    2. Solar Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of solar energy systems, photovoltaic technology, and solar construction techniques, with familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulations.
    3. Substation Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical substation designs, equipment placement, bus configurations and safety considerations.
    4. Qualification & Professional Registration: Civil or Electrical Engineering.
    5. Leadership and Communication Skills: Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, build consensus, and resolve conflicts.
    6. Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in construction management software, project management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and engineering documents.
    7. Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.

    Duties will include but are not limited to:

    1. Project Planning and Scheduling: Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, and budgets for solar energy installations, ensuring alignment with client requirements, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
    2. Construction Oversight: Direct and supervise all aspects of solar construction activities, including site preparation, equipment installation, mounting system assembly, electrical wiring, and system commissioning.
    3. Team Management: Lead and manage construction teams, subcontractors, and vendors, providing guidance, support, and direction to ensure efficient project execution and optimal resource utilization.
    4. Quality Assurance: Implement and enforce rigorous quality control measures to uphold the highest standards of workmanship, safety, and performance throughout the construction process.
    5. Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to occupational health and safety regulations, conducting regular site inspections, risk assessments, and safety training to mitigate hazards and prevent accidents.
    6. Material Procurement and Inventory Management: Coordinate with suppliers and procurement teams to source materials, equipment, and supplies necessary for construction activities, maintaining accurate inventory records and optimizing resource utilization.
    7. Client Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and project teams, providing regular updates, addressing concerns, and resolving issues to ensure client satisfaction and project success.
    8. Permitting and Regulatory Compliance: Manage the permitting process, obtaining necessary approvals and permits from regulatory authorities, and ensuring compliance with local building codes, zoning ordinances, and environmental regulations.
    9. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including construction plans, permits, inspection reports, change orders, and progress reports, and generate regular status updates and performance metrics for internal and external stakeholders.
    10. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and performance enhancement, implementing best practices and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
