    Description

    This is a remote position.

    We are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our team and lead our client's re-engineering of their system. As a DevOps Engineer, you will work closely with the development and operations teams to identify, plan and execute the re-engineering of our client's system.


    Requirements

    Responsibilities
    • Deployment and Infrastructure Management
    • Deploy Java/Scala and NodeJS microservices as containerized applications on Kubernetes clusters (vSphere, EKS, AKS) using DevOps automation techniques.
    • Manage infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and Ansible.
    • Automate deployments and infrastructure changes using GitLab pipelines (CI/CD).
    • Customize Helm charts for microservice deployments and umbrella charts for infrastructure services.
    • Utilize declarative methodologies to define and size Kubernetes resources for applications.
    Package Management and Configuration
    • Maintain, administer, and upgrade software management solutions for developers.
    • Manage configuration files and secrets for deployed services using secure practices (e.g., Vault, Secrets Operator).
    Database and Observability
    • Deploy and manage databases (Cassandra, Ignite, Kafka, Pinot, Postgres) with high availability and data integrity.
    • Implement monitoring and observability using Prometheus and Grafana.
    Security
    • Maintain least privilege access using RBAC and appropriate tools.
    Enhancement
    • Continuously improve existing solutions by bringing your ideas and knowledge.
    Technical Skills
    Linux Administration
    • In-depth understanding of Linux administration, including process management, shell scripting, performance monitoring, and troubleshooting common system issues.
    • Proficiency in writing shell scripts to automate tasks and manage configurations.
    Kubernetes Expertise
    • Strong understanding of Kubernetes concepts, deployments, and configuration management.
    • Experience using Helm for packaging and deploying applications on Kubernetes.
    CI/CD Pipeline Management
    • Experience with CI/CD automation pipelines (e.g., GitLab, CodePipeline, or similar
    Infrastructure Provisioning
    • Working knowledge of Terraform or Ansible for infrastructure provisioning
    Additional Skills
    • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, containerd, etc.).
    • Knowledge of software development methodologies (Scrum, Agile, etc.).
    • Experience with monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana.

    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with development teams.
    • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to changing environments.
    • Passion for DevOps practices, automation, and continuous improvement.
    Additional Notes
    • We value the ability to research independently and find solutions for new technologies.
    • We embrace a vendor-agnostic approach, but consider managed services when they demonstrably improve efficiency and delivery targets.
    Nonnegotiable
    • Linux experience - I think you can take someone with Linux experience and convert them into Kubernetes very easily.
    • Containerization experience - the candidate should have used docker in some form or other by now.
    • Experience in automation - irrespective of tooling, so if they've used any of Puppet or Ansible or shell scripting or terraform or one of the pipeline tools from AWS or Azure.
