About Xolani Mazibuko:
My name is Xolani Mazibuko. I’ve always been fascinated by computers ever since I was a child. Every opportunity I had to use them I took it and luckily my father had a work laptop which allowed me to tinker.
I’m currently studying Computer Science and Mathematics part time which is great because it allows me to have a Software Engineering career and learn more about the subject, I’ve had an interest in for all these years.
During my career, I started out as more of a Data Analyst/ Software engineer, but this allowed me to gain a better understanding of software development in general. I was able to automate the company's very manual data compilation process using Python, pandas, and openpyxl. This would usually take a week to do but I was able to make it only take 4 hours.
At the next company, I joined I started as a Junior Backend Developer and within a year I was promoted to Intermediate. My team’s greatest achievement was upgrading our old codebase from Python 2.7 to 3.6 and Django 1.5 to 3.0. This required upgrading packages, rewriting a lot of code, extensive testing, and QA. Once our codebase was improved, we then set out to improve our staging, prod test, and production environments by creating automatic deployments on Bitbucket using Docker on our servers. The overall project was a success and took about 6 months to complete while maintaining the original site.
At the next two companies I worked at I was a Full-Stack and Backend Engineer using Django and React. I also improved my DevOps skills using AWS and Terraform.
My interests include learning about different technologies and different social or historical topics on YouTube. As well as fashion, design, and cooking for my family. On weekends I enjoy watching and playing football with my friends. Whether that’s on FIFA or in real life. In fact, I would say that I like video games in general.
Overall, I’m looking forward to joining company and I hope I become a healthy and helpful addition to the team.
