    Our client based in Johannesburg is looking for a Central Accountant who will be responsible for the management and co-ordination of fixed assets, insurance and relevant monthly journal entries

    Education and Minimum Requirements

    CA (SA) with minimum 2 years post article experience
    High level of computer literacy and advanced MS Excel skills
    Good knowledge of accounting standards and relevant legislation
    In-depth knowledge of relevant accounting systems

    Responsibilities

    Develop and implement a clear process for accounting of accruals and prepayments
    Preparation of monthly balance sheet overview (summary level of relevant areas) and implement a standardized GL reconciliation process in accordance with policies and procedures
    Review relevant recons, plus co-ordinate and control GL reconciliation summary with timely follow up and query resolution
    Effective team management ensuring all deadlines are met with high quality output
    Ensure all insurance queries are attended to and closed out professionally and timeously
    Assist in the training and development of team
    Build and maintain good relationships with all stakeholders (internal and external)
    Immediately notify management of red flags/possible risks
    Together with IT develop key exception logs required, implement and provide regular updates on dashboards to all relevant persons/parties
    Ensure compliance to SLAs with all key stakeholders, as well as develop SLAs where required
    Develop policies and procedures for relevant and build in solid internal controls
    Keep up to date with relevant legislation and accounting standards
    Create and maintain self-testing scripts for team and self and liaise with internal audit to review
    Evaluate processes on an ongoing basis and ensure operational effectiveness and efficiencies
    Ensure reliable financial reporting, and compliance with laws, regulations and policies

    Ensure solid internal controls including:
    access controls, authorized approval, separation of duties, fixed asset verification, self-testing, standardized documentation and use of technology effectively
    Identify and successfully implement one value add function per quarter
    Develop and maintain a system for automation of recons to a high degree
    Assist with treasury and banking related tasks
    Ensure efficient filing of documents and develop an electronic filing system to minimize paper use
    Ensure effective and efficient master data management
    Understand and document current process for Fixed Assets, Insurance, Vat, month-end journals, GL reconciliations and determine the most effective way to use technology where applicable to ensure effective, streamlined processes
    Responsible for preparation of Vat reconciliation and related submissions
    Preparation of regulatory submissions for bodies such as Stats SA
    Participate in preparation for the annual audit
    Assist with reports for management
    Identify and resolve internal control gaps as well as assist with projects as requested by management
    Recommend to management any updates to accounting policies related to fixed assets, insurance and other relevant areas
    Maintain a master list of monthly journal entries for relevant areas as well as monthly timetable/s
    Maintain statutory and other required registers
    Preparation of notes for the record on accounting treatment as and when required
    Effective use of technology to streamline processes and drive efficiencies
    Develop and maintain models, scorecards and dashboards as required
