Zach Bethanie

I am a qualified marine engineer with 9 years sea going experience. I have completed S4 National Diploma in Marine Engineering at CPUT. I am also in the process of attaining my class 2 engineer officer of the watch (unlimited) CoC.

I have sailed on container vessels, port tugs, offshore patrol and offshore mining vessels. I see my future in a shore based role where I can apply my experience gained from my time as an engineering officer on board vessels.

Finished S1 and S2 marine engineering at CPUT in 2009. Finished workshop training in Kimberley in 2010 along with pre-sea courses. In 2011 to 2012 I finished my seatime onboard Maersk vessels (through SAMTRA) as well as the remainder auxiliary courses. Managed to pass my Oral exams and get my engineer officer of the watch certificate (unlimited) in March 2013 after which I worked onboard Transnet tugs in Port Elizabeth. After that I spend time onboard the DAFF fleet working as a 4th and 3rd engineer working on patrol and research vessels and stayed there until 2015. In September 2015 I got the opportunity to work onboard offshore mining vessels with Debmarine Namibia (De Beers Marine Namibia), where I stayed for 4 years until September 2019. In 2020 and 2021 I completed S3 and S4 National Diploma Marine Engineering. In 2022 I am in the process of renewing my auxiliary courses (should be completed by October 2022) after that I plan to go for my Class 2 Engineering Officer of the Watch Unlimited Certificate.
