Leigh Nakeetah Jason

Having completed my matric qualification in 2017, I went on to study for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2018, until I found my calling in 2019, and changed my degree to a Bachelor of Arts in media, Culture & Communications, where I was exposed to film studies and film writing, copywriting, philosophy, marketing, new media studies, and TV & video production.
Between studying, I managed to attain a student position in retail where I worked between 8 and 27 hours weekly, and also managed to secure the position of student journalist at the university's student-run publication, Madibaz News.
A year later, still going strong, I wrote for an online publication 'The South African' for their student section during the Corona Virus pandemic. In 2021, I was promoted from student journalist to section editor within MadibazNews, where I headed up the Lifestyle & Entertainment Section where I edited everyone's-work and ensured that my section was ready for publishing.
In 2022, still working at Woolworths, my hard work at Madibaz News paid off, and I was awarded the title of Editor-in-Chief of the student publication, where I oversaw all section's work, viewed every journalist's pieces and sorted them into the paper and online blog.
After completing my schooling in 2022 and achieving my degree in 2023, I am actively seeking a new adventure. As seen below, I am hardworking and able to work well under pressure. When offered the opportunity, I dedicate my everything to the post and ensure that my task is completed to the best of my ability before moving on to the next one. I am looking within the scope of Media related studies, but my abilities are not limited to that writing, but also admin, sales, and leadership. I work very well within team environments and rise from any and all circumstances. I also engaged in a scriptwriting/screenwriting course at TheMedia Workshop under the renowned Denise Roodt and am doing various online digital marketing courses to better understand the concepts of B2B and digital marketing as a whole.

MPC Connect | September 2022 - March2023
My responsibilities at MPC Connect included but were not limited to: the tutoring and conversing of ESL students via online platforms, assisting ESL  study and work opportunities, and conducting one-on-one and group sessions aimed at improving grammar, pronunciation, and overall language use

Woolworths: March 2019 - April 2023

My responsibilities at Woolworths South Africa were-sphered within all departments of the retail store. Trained and signed off, I was able to assist customers with Fashion, Beauty & Homeware salesfloor, assist customers with financial services like opening accounts and credit cards, assist customers with POS operations and refunds, and create loyalty profiles for promotional purposes. Additionally, I worked on the food sales floor, the food tills, and the fitting rooms.

Madibaz News: February 2021 - Current
My responsibilities as Editor-in-Chief of Madibaz News include editing every section and editor's work, ensuring everything is set for publishing, and controlling the online publication content, as well as the blog.

Madibaz News: February 2021 - December 2021
After two years as a student journalist, I was promoted to editor, where my work then included overseeing a team of journalists, editing their work, and making sure the section was ready for publication every month.

The South African: June 2020 - September 2020
As an online journalist working for the student section on the website, I researched and compiled information in a gratifying manner, and presented it to readers.

Madibaz News: February 2019 - February 2021

As a student journalist at a student-fueled publication, I actively sourced and researched news and content to add to the monthly additions at Madibaz News.

I recently attained my degree in Media, Culture & Communications.
