I'm the editor of Mukurukuru Media - an online publication focusing on issues land reform, human rights, culture, heritage and rural development. I'm the author of three non-fiction books and documentary film maker. I have experience in working with journalism graduates who join our platform to gain valuable practical experience after completing their studies. I have been awarded numerous times for my feature writing and photography both locally and internationally.
Experience
Lucas Ledwaba is the founder and editor of Mukurukuru Media. He is a writer, photographer, editor and documentary film maker. He writes on travel, tourism, culture, heritage, land, mining, social, history and human rights issues. Ledwaba is the author of Broke and Broken - The Shameful Legacy of Gold Mining in South Africa [Blackbird, Jacana 2016] and co-author of We Are Going to Kill Each Other Today – The Marikana Story [Tafelberg-2013]. He is a two-time winner of the CNN/MultiChoice African Journalist Award, the Standard Bank Sikuvile Award, Vodacom Journalism Award for Feature Writing and the PICA Magazine Publishers Public Interest Writer of the Year. His photographic work has been exhibited in SA and at the San Francisco Public Library. He co-directed the documentary film Troupes of War – Diturupa which has featured at various international film festivals.
