    Key responsibilities

  • Assists in major air-conditioning installations to ensure compliance with the OHSA and SABA 0147 of 1995 code of practice.
  • Assists in the condition, operation and facilitates with annual inspection of all refrigerant pressure vessels, pressure relief safety devices and calibration thereof and all electrical safety interlock as carried out by facilities and utilities technician.
  • Assists in all HVAC plant rooms' conditions and safety equipment and ensuring the safety of any other authorized personnel.
  • Assists in for the maintenance of all factory HVAC systems for keeping records of inspections, modifications, and conditions of refrigeration equipment.
  • Assists in the validating all air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
  • Assist in the maintenance and operation of all office air-conditioning units, canteen fridges and freezers, satellite kitchen fridge's, water coolers, walk in fridge's, lab fridges and freezers, fume cupboards and laminar flow units.
  • Assist in all maintenance JDE job cards are completed on time.
  • Forms part of the after-hours standby duty calendar.
  • Maintains the plant rooms neatness and cleanliness.
  • Notifies the Air Conditioning lead Technician of parts required for HVAC and refrigeration equipment so that orders can be placed.
  • Keep areas of responsibility neat and tidy.
  • In the absence of the Lead Air Conditioning Technician, he takes control of all the HVAC systems on site and ensures that they remain operational.
  • Work overtime as required this includes Stand-by.
  • Completes regular JDI and ensures workplace is compliant with 5S standards.

    • Qualifications and skills

    Required

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • 5 years' experience.

    • Preferred

  • N2: Refrigeration (Completed qualification or studying towards a N3 qualification in Refrigeration).
  • Qualified in the safe handling and storage of gases.
  • Practical Hands-on Maintenance certificate.

    • Other Skills/Qualifications

  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Initiative.
  • Ability to work under pressure to deadline.
  • Ability to work overtime and shift work when required.
  • Ability to complete necessary paperwork when required. Change controls, NC, CAPA's.
