About the role:

The purpose of this Payroll Officer is to ensure efficient Payroll and related Remuneration
and Benefit administration though efficient administration of all Payroll and related systems
within the prescripts of the relevant Acts, Policies and Statutory Legislation and Taxation.

This role includes (not limited too); administration of all employee benefits, statutory
deductions, surveys and reports required and undertaking of related audits.


Time and Attendance system (EDMA):


  • Administration of the Biometric system.
  • Developing ad hoc operational reporting as needed.
  • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies on EDMA
  • Generating reports on hours for payments.
  • Ensuring all hours transactions are processed efficiently.
  • Resolving hours discrepancies
  • Collecting and verifying timekeeping information with supervisors; making sure short hours are accounted for and backup for overtime is provided
  • Exporting hours and leave files / batches for import.

Payroll (SAGE 300):


  • Fortnightly payroll (2 payrolls) of approximately 500 employees and
  • Monthly payroll (4 payrolls) of approximately 500 employees.
  • Verify new engagements and terminations
  • Verify that employee changes are entered correctly and made on a timely basis; review changes for proper authorization.
  • Capturing third party deductions
  • Import of fortnightly hours and leave transactions from EDMA
  • Import night shift calculated on EDMA
  • Import monthly overtime from EDMA
  • Generating of reports after completion of fortnightly and monthly payrolls.
  • Generating ACBs for timely payments Monthly
  • Leave and Bonus Provision workings for monthly journals


  • Exporting bank files

  • Third party payments
  • Exporting month end spreadsheet if required
  • Submission of statutory files
  • UIF submit
  • EFT requisitions for Wages & Salaries:
  • Preparing and submitting reconciled schedules to service providers
  • Medical Aid, Provident fund, Risk, etc.
  • Prepare monthend head counts.
  • Advances and deductions approvals and reconciliations

Ad hoc:


  • Annual increase schedule preparations
  • EMP501 recons and submissions
  • WCA
  • Audit queries
  • In collaboration with HR, deal with complaints and questions regarding payroll from employees and upper management
  • Support Payroll Manager in all aspects

Requirements:


  • Relevant min 5 years' experience in payroll and remuneration environment.
  • Payroll or Remuneration and benefits qualifications or Payroll certification is an advantage.
  • SAGE PEOPLE 300 knowledge and experience is essential
  • ESS Knowledge would be beneficial
  • Experience with engineering, metal and printing industry councils would be beneficial
  • Experience with efiling and SARS queries beneficial
  • Personal income tax knowledge
