    CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

    The core purpose of this academic post is to teach English literature (and not linguistics) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Department of Languages and Literatures. To particularly facilitate the teaching and learning processes, practices and research in the English Section and the Department. Preference will be given to equity candidates.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

    1.Teaching and Learning:

    Facilitate teaching and learning for assigned module(s) to large or small groups using different teaching methodologies. Assist with the promotion of blended online learning

    1. Research:

    Develop and implement own independent research programme

    Supervise the research projects of undergraduate and post-graduate students annually, assisting them to identify appropriate projects, write an acceptable and ethical research proposal.

    1. Engagement:

    To render service based on own knowledge and expertise in the discipline to colleagues, organizations, and local communities

    4.Administration:

    Administrative duties as designated by the Head of the Discipline/ Department

    CORE COMPETENCIES

    · Demonstrated abilities to teach undergraduate students and supervise postgraduate students

    · Proven research and publication record

    · Ability to work with and contribute to a team effort

    · Ability to contribute towards transformative curricula

    · Experience in the use of embedding digital technology

    · Proven record or potential for providing academic leadership

    REQUIREMENTS

    LECTURER:

    A relevant Masters /PhD in English literature (not linguistics or philosophy)

    A record indicating production of relevant creative outputs will be an advantage.

    Experienced in facilitating learning and teaching of at least 2 years at a tertiary institution (not a high school)

    A minimum of 3 research output units, including articles, Honours and Masters outputs. At least 1 refereed publication in accredited journals (published or formally accepted for publication)

    Potential to/has acted as co-supervisor for postgraduate research (honours and masters)

    Evidence of research papers presented at papers at national academic & professional conferences.

    Experience of use of digital technology for educational purposes is an advantage.

    SENIOR LECTURER:

    A relevant PhD in English literature (not linguistics or philosophy)

    A record indicating production of relevant creative outputs will be an advantage.

    Experienced in facilitating learning and teaching of 1-5 years at a tertiary institution (not a high school)

    A minimum of 6 research output units, including articles, Masters and Doctoral outputs. A minimum of 3 refereed publications in accredited journals (published or formally accepted for publication)

    Potential to/has acted as co-supervisor for postgraduate research (Honours and Masters)

    Evidence of research papers presented at papers at national academic & professional conferences.

    Experience of use of digital technology for educational purposes is an advantage.
