Good day,

My name is Smangaliso Simelane and I would like to apply to be a Writer and Editor.

I believe I am well-suited for the role due to my vast experience with content writing. I have had extensive practical experience as a digital content writer. As of 2022, I have been a content writer for WriteForMe.io. This is a content agency that provides original, SEO-friendly content to businesses. Through this work, I have gained valuable knowledge and experience with SEO and writing persuasive, long-form articles for B2B clients in the tech industry. I also familiarized myself with online writing platforms such as StoryChief.

Since 2020, I have also been writing gaming content for various sites, serving as a staff writer for Keengamer, a senior feature writer for GameRant, and a staff writer for Destructoid. Through these jobs, I have learned a great deal about the entertainment industry as a whole, including how to work with a team, engage with editors, and produce quality work at a fast pace. My past positions have also familiarized me with various applications and platforms used for online content creation, including GIMP, WordPress, Google Sheets, Slack, Asana, and Trello, to name a few.

Through my time at university, I have gained significant experience as a writer and editor. I have worked as an English tutor since 2017, a job that involves teaching first-year English students, as well as marking and editing their classwork and essays. In 2021, I also served as a temporary English lecturer, taught postcolonial literature to first-year students, and marked exam scripts. This work has helped me to become proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. It has also taught me the importance of confidentiality and discretion.

Although I have earned a Master’s Degree in English from Rhodes, I am determined to be a lifelong learner. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in English at Stellenbosch University, and I am currently completing a short course on copy-editing from the University of Cape Town, which will run until August. My constant desire to learn is not limited to my academic pursuits, and I am also eager to learn and grow within the workplace.
