This was my first role in the hospitality industry, and it taught me a great deal from adapting to a fast-paced environment, ensuring that my work was of the highest standard and carrying myself with greatest level of professionalism.  

Duties:

• Ensuring that kitchen area was always clean, so that it would not be a breeding ground for disease and ensuring that health standards were met.
• Washing dishes and cutlery to ensure that there were enough cooking tools and dishes throughout the day, especially if it was a particularly busy part of the month.
• Cleaning tables and rearranging the furniture in the dining areas so that it would always be presentable enough to attract customers.
• Cleaning bathrooms at regular intervals with the utmost care so that other staff and customers would not be at risk of catching illnesses when they used them.

This was a role that presented a variety of new challenges that I always rose to overcome from adapting to dealing with child and elderly care, to learning how to work independently since the employer was out of the home most of the time. In this role, I also learnt how to communicate with a multitude of third parties, from repair men, doctors to teachers on behalf of my employer, her children and elderly father.

Duties:

• Cleaning the house to the highest standard so that it would be a safe environment for a young child and an elderly man with a weakened immune system.
• Ensuring that mealtimes were adhered to greatest possible extent, especially when my employer’s father was sick.
• Doing laundry and ironing for the household at least three times a week. to ensure that there were always sufficient clothes for the family and that the bedding was always clean.
• Cooking healthy and nutritious meals for the family daily.
• Looking after young child during after school hours and keeping the grandfather company throughout the day
•  Administering medication to employer’s father, in line with her instructions and that of their doctor.
