Maryke Lessing

In my 27 years in retail, I have been involved in various aspects of training and development. I served in management role from 2000 to 2006. In my junior management I was extensively involved in store training of non-CFTA products. I was also actively involved in planning and execution of store events on promotional periods. As  the store assistant manager I was involved in staff interviews, onboarding and product training. Of the 46 people that reported to me, 7 was promoted into store management in the 2 years I was managing them. All of the management positions involved personal development plans, goal setting as well as key performance indicators.

At head office level I was involved in various product projects as well as systems development specifically for the cosmetics area. I also assisted in system and product application in Africa stores.

As to training and development, I assisted many new employees to integrate into the department processes. I was also a mentor for the Edcon Edgars graduate leanership programme.

During this time I decided to study part-time at the University of the Witwatersrand. I did majors in psychology, sociology and marketing. Psychology on part time included industrial psychology subjects. One of with I received merit award. 
I am currently a student pursuing my Honours in Psychology and I am volenteering at the South Africa Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG)
My aim is to move to a healthcare environment to develop my skills in this industry

Over my retail years I have developed strong analytical, negotiating, mentoring, development and facilitating skills.
I believe I have the require knowledge and experience for this position

Furthermore a hardworking college student. Bringing forth a motivated attitude and a variety of powerful skills. Adept in various social media platforms and office technology programs. Committed to utilising my skills further in the health and social science fields

I am currently completing my honours degree at Varsity college. I believe that psychology is the gateway to understand, relate and help any person, organisation even states. 

I also took Sociology as a major to my undergraduate at the Universityof the Witwatersrand.  This gave me deeper insight into South African culture, communities and a fundamental knowledge to be able to read and “talk” to the South African.
