Makhosazana Maduna

I am a practicing artist, cultural worker, and writer. The themes that my work engages are centered around the ideas and practices that frame our understanding of Identity, Radical Love, Memory, Spirituality, Gender, and Knowledge production. 

I am interested in the ideas and theorizations of communal love and the ways in which it can be practiced in order to foster holistically functional communities.  I use the praxis of re-narration and re-construction of ideologies and prevailing narratives in communities through radical cultural production, for the purpose of encouraging conducive, and transformative environments. 

I have exhibited work at the 2020 Kampala Biennale. Later I was given an opportunity to be an usher and performed at the Moving kwa La Fada exhibition that took place at the Johannesburg Gallery in the year 2020. My most recent work was published in the When Rain Clouds Gather publication of the exhibition that was showing from 9 February 2022 - 9 January 2023 at the Norval Foundation, I was contracted as their researcher and writer.

I hold a Honours Degree in Fine Arts from the Wits School of the Arts. I have the academic background of History of Art, Fine Art Professional Practice, Drawing and Contemporary Practice, and my Honours research was conducted through the interrogation of Critical Theories and Visual Cultures.
