Makaziwe Thwala

Throughout my academic career I have always been in leadership positions starting from combined school with me being the school’s LRC secretary and going on to be the vice chairperson of my high school. In varsity, I became the secretary, in 2019, and chairperson, in 2020, of the Rhodes University chess club and the community engagement rep of Helen Joseph house in the same year. In 2021 I worked at Maqubs academy of excellence where I was an accounting tutor which then inspired me to obtain my PGCE in commerce subjects the following year. I am now a SACE certified teacher who can teach Economics, Business Studies, Accounting, and EMS. I  currently work with an outreach program called Keep a girl in school which is under the AASU as the head coordinator for my country (South Africa) and I tutor in the subjects mentioned above both online and face to face.

My academic career has not yet ended as I have intentions of stopping until I obtain my master’s degree in both Org psych and education. This year I am also an BCOM honours candidate for organisational psychology and I wish to complete my honours in education the following year.

I am an organisational psychology and economics graduate from Rhodes University, my course has given me the necessary experience to under an administration and Human Resources position while making me a great asset to have because not only have I been taught to be precise and always double check my work by economics I have also learnt how to work with people, follow the correct channels, understand what is needed of me and sometimes help other to increase the company's productivity rate. I was allowed to be an accounting tutor in my final year which sparked an interest to be a teacher or understand how I'm supposed to teach my students to ensure that they have the greatest possible outcome so I completed my PGCE in Economics, Life Orientation, Accounting, Business Studies, and EMS the previous year. I wish t enhance my education in future by completing my honour's degree in organisational psychology shortly. being employed, of course, would aid in that quest and also benefit the company because I will be acquiring more skills to be of better use to the organisation. I have worked in numerous volunteering positions such as being the secretary, chairperson, community engagement rep, head student, and peer mentor in my time at Rhodes University where I accumulated the skills of leadership, communication, time management, planning etc. I am currently volunteering with the All African Student Union (AASU) as the head of South Africa's keep a girl in school (KAGIS) project and I also tutor in my spare time

I wish to one day work in either administration/ HR or work for the education department and I, therefore, feel like all of my education is relevant. I love to be involved and work towards a certain goal with my colleagues, help where I am needed and always complete tasks in the most correct and desired way.
