Engineering / Architecture
About Kunal Matikiti:
I am a professional architect registered with SACAP in South Africa and the Arbv in Australia. I have over 10 years experience working on complex projects from concept to handover.
Experience
During the Pandemic, I was working remotely with my previous firm (CO-OP Studio) in Melbourne which I continue to do. I also started my own small practice – ROOT Architecture.
My specific experience centers on Civic Architecture with a focus on public sporting facilities, community facilities, multi-residential and childcare. Details of these projects can be found within my professional Architectural portfolio. Please also review my LinkedIn details.
In my capacity as Project Architect at CO-OP Studio in Melbourne Australia I was responsible for delivering a number of projects including:
- HE Parker Reserve Multi-Sport (AU$17,000,000 – City of Maroondah)
- Sunbury Aquatic Centre Warm Water Pool Upgrade (AU$4,500,00 – Hume City Council)
- Mount Gambier Sports and Aquatic Centre (AU$32,000,000 – City of Mount Gambier)
- St Marys Sports Pavilion (Au$3,5000,000 –City Greater of Geelong)
- Stanley Terrace Childcare (Au$4,000,000 – Explorers Early Learning)
- Springvale Childcare (Au$5,000,000 – Explorers Early Learning)
- Oak Park Sports and Aquatic Centre (Au$28,000,000 – Moreland City Council)
During my time at CO-OP Studio, I learned and developed many skills and abilities which would carry over well into the Professional Architect role. These include mastery of Revit (including BIM360) and Adobe software, good communication skills between both contractors and clients and great technical ability and ability to think on my feet while maintaining the integrity of the architecture and ensuring that all stakeholders are satisfied.
As Project Architect, I was responsible for managing consultants and consultant co-ordination, in house production teams, design and design research, managing external stakeholders (client project control groups, council and relevant authorities), invoicing, bid development and submissions and managing builders during the construction administration phase.
Education
I undertook my Architectural Education in Geelong, Australia before moving to Melbourne to work professionally. After living and working in Australia for about 13 years I decided to move closer to home to Cape Town.
I am a registered professional architect in Australia (Victoria) under the ARBV (Architectural Registration Board of Victoria – Reg 19113) and have been working in public sector architecture for eight years. I am registered with SACAP as a Professional Architect (Registration No: PrArch57730328). I am currently on a Marriage Visa and have full working rights in South Africa with no employer input required.
