Role Purpose


The purpose of the Technical Manager role is to effectively and efficiently manage the Technical Maintenance issues related to a portfolio of properties.

The role undertakes a variety of technical maintenance activities including but not limited to electrical and mechanical maintenance generally and all aspects pertaining to aircon, structural and plumbing maintenance.

The supports multiple facilities including shopping centres, ensuring all technical facility maintenance and related administrative functions are executed to the highest standard and within required performance indicators.

This role works alongside a Senior Technical Manager who is accountable for multiple facilities related outputs including the successful execution of technical maintenance standards and controls.

This role is based in the Northern Property Portfolio - and supports the technical Property Maintenance of 63 shopping centres and an office park.

Technical Property Maintenance

  • Provide technical maintenance expertise and support to ensure the efficient running of all buildings and facilities within the multiple portfolios.
  • Advice and recommend solutions for complex maintenance problems and timeous servicing schedules (e.g. sewage, air conditioning, etc.) to Property Managers.
  • Obtain relevant approvals for complex maintenance issues and coordinate escalations to external vendors or solution experts on highly complex maintenance issues and ensure timeous service delivery.
  • Manage all activities related to abnormal maintenance through effective identification and prioritization of maintenance initiatives, and managing the administration, allocated budgets, and actual delivery of abnormal maintenance.
  • Manage maintenance project delivery according to agreed timelines, budget, and quality standards.
  • Where relevant, oversee outsourced technical maintenance and associated contractor performance as defined within contractual agreements and in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Ensure that the technical maintenance issues are attended to within the agreed service levels and accepted by the relevant stakeholders to confirm successful completion of technical jobs assigned and performed.
  • Ensure compliance and control with all aspects of OHSA including fire and hazard control.
  • Execute technical maintenance control.
  • Regularly monitor building maintenance e.g., inspections, site visits.
  • Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- (essential).

  • Other technical maintenance, compliance OHS certifications (highly beneficial).
  • Experience
- +3 years' experience in Technical Property Maintenance role (or similar) with in depth experience in and exposure to: electrical and mechanical technical maintenance including aircon, structural and plumbing maintenance within a shopping centre / office park or complex building environment - (essential).

  • Ability to travel at short notice as per operational requirements (essential).Minimum of 5 years experience in facility management
