SHERQ Officer FMCG / Food & Bev /Agri

Johannesburg East, Johannesburg - Gauteng - South Africa

The DC SHERQ Officer is expected to review, evaluate and analyses work environments at DC level.

This includes designing programs and procedures to control, eliminate and prevent disease or injury in the workplace and ensure that food safety is maintained in conjunction with the Divisional SHERQ manager and in line with the Division SHERQ programs.

The DC SHERQ Officer is also responsible for conducting internal audits, ensuring that inspections are done, and enforce adherence to the laws and regulations that govern the health and safety of individuals and the safety of food products in the warehouse.


Responsibility:

  • Develop and implement an OH&S and Food Safety management plan in conjunction with the National SHERQ Manager.
  • Formulate OH&S and Food Safety standards for projects and comply with customer requirements.
  • Ensure that OH&S and Food Safety policies, procedures, standards, and methodologies are current and report noncompliance to DC manager and/or SHERQ manager.
  • Ensure that OH&S as well as Food Safety management systems, processes, policies, procedures, and resources are in place and adhered to
  • Take full cognizance of applicable legislation and best practice principles in providing leadership on OH&S and Food Safety activities.
  • Provide leadership.
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health and safety.
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, and materials.
  • Investigate incidents to identify causes and to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
  • Develop and maintain hygiene programs such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys and asbestos management plans.
  • Audit and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Collaborate with engineers and physicians to institute control and remedial measures for hazardous conditions or equipment.
  • Provide new employees with health and safety orientations and develop materials for these presentations.
  • Survey and report on health and safety practices and systems
  • Execute responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards as set out in the company's policy and procedure manual.
  • Implement and train evacuation procedures, fire drills, etc.
  • Budgeting.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Grade 1
  • OHSAS 18001:2007, SAMTRAC, SHEMTRAC, Hazard Identification & Risk Assessments, Legal Compliance Assessments, Construction Regulations and other similar HSE training
  • HACCP, PRP and other related Food Safety training
  • At least 5 years of industry related experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant safety, security, and environmental legislation, especially the:
  • OHSACT, COID ACT and Environmental Conservation Act

  • Thorough knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and OHSAS 18001:2007 And ISO 45001:201
  • Working knowledge of Health & Safety and Food Safety systems
  • The ability to manage the implementation and administration of health and safety and Food Safety systems
  • Commitment to service excellence.
  • Able to meet administrative demands.
  • Be a team player, be process driven, be selfmotivated and disciplined, show initiative, be prepared to give of oneself and have no time constraints.
