Description

The role/s for the Botanist will include:

  • Undertaking specialist surveys and assessments in Southern African vegetation types.
  • Provision of floristic components of biodiversity assessments for Basic Assessment Reports (BARs) and Environment Impact Assessments (EIAs).
  • Preparation of biodiversity management plans, alien vegetation management, and search and rescue plans.
  • Inputs into due diligence reports for projects across South Africa.
  • Possible assistance and inputs on restoration and rehabilitation for mine closure projects.
  • Support to other ecological disciplines and activities where required.
Key Responsibilities

  • Specific requirements for the position include:
  • A post-graduate qualification in a biodiversity-related discipline (e.g. Botany, Zoology, Conservation Biology, Environmental Science) or equivalent tertiary qualification.
  • Fieldwork experience as a botanist with good plant identification skills.
  • Experience with biodiversity data acquisition tools and database management.
  • Familiarity with South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) spatial products.
  • Willingness to travel to remote destinations.
  • Willingness to be trained and mentored by SLR ecologists.
