Botanist - Cape Town, South Africa - SLR Consulting
Description
The role/s for the Botanist will include:
- Undertaking specialist surveys and assessments in Southern African vegetation types.
- Provision of floristic components of biodiversity assessments for Basic Assessment Reports (BARs) and Environment Impact Assessments (EIAs).
- Preparation of biodiversity management plans, alien vegetation management, and search and rescue plans.
- Inputs into due diligence reports for projects across South Africa.
- Possible assistance and inputs on restoration and rehabilitation for mine closure projects.
- Support to other ecological disciplines and activities where required.
- Specific requirements for the position include:
- A post-graduate qualification in a biodiversity-related discipline (e.g. Botany, Zoology, Conservation Biology, Environmental Science) or equivalent tertiary qualification.
- Fieldwork experience as a botanist with good plant identification skills.
- Experience with biodiversity data acquisition tools and database management.
- Familiarity with South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) spatial products.
- Willingness to travel to remote destinations.
- Willingness to be trained and mentored by SLR ecologists.
