Requirements:


  • B.Sc. (Eng) / B. Eng in Electrical Engineering
  • Certificate of Competency issued by the Chief Inspector
of the Department of Employment and Labour

  • Minimum of 15 years' experience on senior management level
in the Electricity Distribution field

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA
  • Extensive knowledge of the electricity function
(Heavy and light current)

  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, industry standards
and specifications (e.g. National Rationalised

Specifications (NRS)

  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and
Safety Act (OHS Act)

  • Solid knowledge of relevant applicable legislation, regulations
and policies

Key Performance Areas

  • Leading and managing staff in the Electricity Directorate to
ensure that staff meet their objectives to give effect to

the Directorates initiatives and goals

  • Managing the performance of the Electricity Directorate
to ensure that the Electricity Directorate achieves its

objectives and operates within by-laws, resolutions and

policies of the City, as well as other relevant legislative

requirements, by Managing the performance of the

Electricity Directorate

  • Implementing and monitoring the City's strategy, policies
and plans

  • Maintain sound relations and demonstrates sound business
values to customers and stakeholders

  • Managing contracts relevant to the Energy Directorate to
ensure that the specific requirements of the Service and City

are met as well as legislatively compliant

  • Give effect to an Asset Management strategy for the
Energy Directorate

  • Maintain efficient management of departmental Finance to
ensure optimal financial utilisation within Council policies and

in compliance with the MFMA
