Job Advert Summary:


Maintain and support the company (Head Office and Branches) including data centre, networks infrastructure, server infrastructure and Patch Management on all IT related infrastructure with respect to performance, availability and security.


Responsibilities include administration and management of the following:
LAN/WAN, Firewalls, Switches, Routers, Storage Area Network, Wireless Infrastructure (i.e. Aruba environment and VMWare), Chassis/ Blade infrastructure, Windows security related, Firmware, Active Directory, Windows, UNIX & Linux Servers, Print Services, Exchange Servers, Anti-virus, Microsoft Teams for Business, and the Office 365environment. The job is also responsible for these aspects of Disaster Recovery.


Minimum Requirements:

Preferred Minimum Education and Experience

National Diploma in IT or equivalent

MCSE Certification or equivalent

ITIL Foundation Certification

5-8 years Microsoft Systems Administration (servers)

3-5 years Network Administration (LAN/WAN)

5-8 years MS Exchange

3-5 years Disaster Recovery

3-5 years HP Blade Server System Technologies

3-5 years Backup and Recovery (preferably HP Backup Exec/ Data Protector)

5-8 years Firmware Patching

Critical Competencies

Microsoft Windows Systems Administration

Network technology (LAN/WAN)

HP Blade Server Technology

Duties and Responsibilities:

Key Performance Areas


  • Ensuring Availability and Performance of the Server Infrastructure, Network Infrastructure
Monitor server and network environment (LAN/WAN/SAN) to ensure optimum operation

Ensure that the operating systems are correctly installed and configured and that all necessary patches are installed.


Monitor current and anticipated system demand versus capacity and make recommendations concerning system expansion so that the organization has sufficient capabilities to meet business requirements.

Monitor and report on patch roll-out.

Satisfied Stakeholders (Internal/External)


  • IT Infrastructure Security (FortiGate firewalls)
To proactively monitor and maintain the active directory environment

Ensure that all required security patches, antivirus and malware protection is in place and operating optimally.

Setup and maintain firewalls and proxy servers to exclude unauthorized users from the company network.


  • Networks (LAN/WAN) and Server Environment
Configure and maintain data centre, branch and head office networking and equipment.

Ensure optimization of all LAN & WAN infrastructures to ensure continuous, cost effective and quality service.

  • Disaster Recovery


Define, implement and test the efficiency of DR procedures to endure that systems can be recovered in the case of a disaster.


Ensure that an effective backup strategy is implemented and followed to ensure adequate protection against loss of data and information.

Ensure compliance to all relevant safety, risk and environmental policies and procedures

Support the efficiency of DR procedures to endure that systems can be recovered in the case of a disaster.


  • Administration, Reporting and Documentation
Ensure that all required system configuration and process documentation within area of responsibility is kept up to date.

Recommend improvements to departmental policies and procedures so that all relevant procedural and legislative requirements are fulfilled.

Identify and propose opportunities for improvements to IT infrastructure and operations.

Ensure that knowledge transfer takes place between systems administrators and service desk and desktop support personnel.


Develop and provide periodic reports to management on the status of patch and firmware levels of all servers, desktops and peripheral infrastructure under your control.

Monitor patch releases to ensure any critical patches are applied as soon as possible
