These "Mentor Mothers" deliver integrated health services at clinics and in communities to ensure everyone, everywhere has access to the services they need to be healthy and stay in care.

Over the next five years, this proven, peer-led model is being scaled up to double down on ending HIV, as well as to tackle new health challenges and reach more people—all with the aim of building a fairer, healthier future.

Deputy Chief of Party - Nelspruit


mothers2mothers is seeking a
Deputy Chief of Party for our
USAID-funded Children and Adolescents Are My Priority project, serving orphans and vulnerable children across Mpumalanga Province, to be based in Nelspruit, South Africa.


The Deputy Chief of Party will support the Chief of Party of m2m CHAMP in providing overall leadership, guidance, and management of programmes and operations.

This position will help represent the project to key stakeholders, such as provincial Departments of Social Development and Health, at the direction of the Chief of Party and Senior Management Team, and will serve as a liaison between USAID South African Mission and other key partners.


Key Performance Areas:

Technical Assistance

  • Lead and provide technical oversight of the project activities, in line with PEPFAR USAID priorities.
  • Provide technical support and capacity building activities to ensure delivery of quality programs as well as USAID award compliance.
  • Oversee and/or provide input into development of technical deliverables for other functional areas including annual workplan, donor reports, and external communications /reports for key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate sharing of evidencebased best practices and innovations for integration into technical support activities with emphasis on DOH/District Support Partners and DSD related priorities (and as part of our USAID workplan).
  • Work with CHAMP CoP, Senior Management Team, and m2m Head Office to improve incountry project systems in response to internal and external gaps, risk areas, and audit findings.
  • Serve as Acting Chief of Party, when required.

Partnerships and Collaboration

  • Coordinate and collaborate with Dept of Social Development, Health, and Basic Education (DSD, DOH, DBE), USAID country missions, key implementing partners, and other stakeholders as required via report writing, strategic meeting attendance, and creating opportunities to strengthen CHAMP"s value add to government led activities for OVC/CLHIV.
  • Represent project and optimize CHAMP's contributions at donor meetings, technical meetings, and other forums as required (MPAC, national TWGs, provincial platforms).
  • Ensure close working relationships with multisectoral government departments (with prioritisation of PDSD, PDOH ), harmonized agenda setting, routine reporting, and MOU development as needed.
  • Provide country intelligence and insight to m2m team to inform program development, planning, and innovation.

Project Management

  • Provide input into crosscutting deliverables as requested by CHAMP CoP and SMT.
  • Colead project review meetings and help ensure alignment of project design to country mission priorities with emphasis on relationship management, MOUs, and priority setting with government partners (DSD and DOH)
  • Work closely with CHAMP SMT to optimize resource allocation and utilisation.
  • Strengthen systems, processes, and procedures required to project activities are implemented in full compliance with USAID/PEPFAR regulations and terms and conditions of the current award.
  • Carry out other duties required for successful project implementation, as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:


  • South African citizenship and Mpumalanga residency.
  • MPH or master's degree in other relevant field;
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in managing public health programmes;
  • Experience working with the Provincial Departments of Social Development and/or Health in Mpumalanga Province is highly preferred/desired.
  • Deep knowledge of HIV and or OVC related programming and government priorities /plans to support children /vulnerable populations and in Mpumalanga context is highly preferred/desired.
  • Proven ability to provide highquality technical support and capacity building especially for large scale health or development projects that serve vulnerable populations
  • Familiarity with USAID/SA and PEPFAR priorities.
  • Experience working with USAID/SA country mission.
