Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to
Strategy and framework
- Develop and implement Group Sustainability strategic framework that supports and enhances business strategy and sharedvalue insurance model
- Manage and implement sustainability strategic framework with measurement of targets/commitments and key performance indicators that are aligned to business
- Keep abreast and inform business on changing context and operating environment in relation to broad environmental, social and governance issues and challenges
- Manage and coordinate key strategic programmes and projects internally and with external partners
Operational and governance
- Seek out opportunities to strengthen sustainable practices within Group operations i.e. procurement tenders, risk assessment frameworks and registers, policy development, research
- Plan and embed sustainability governance, e.g. manage and facilitate the executiveled ESG Committee
Reporting and data management
- Oversee group reporting requirements on a monthly, quarterly, biannually and annually to address sustainabilityrelated reporting requirements i.e.
- Present quarterly reports to the Social and Ethics Committee
- Annual Sustainability Report
- Third party reporting and indices i.e. FTSE JSE ESG, DJSI, MSCI, Sustainalytics, TCFD
- Voluntary standards i.e. UN Global Compact, Global Reporting Initiative
- Work with business to develop and improve commitments/targets, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reporting standard requirements i.e. Sustainable Development Goals, Global reporting Initiative
- Oversee data management process and manage the relationship with Group Internal Audit and external auditors
- Oversee the reporting implementation of the sustainability framework
- Oversee and guide the maturation of reports to Social and Ethics Committee on a quarterly basis
Communication and engagement
- Drive communication and engagement on sustainability issues both internally and externally
- Build and strengthen key relationships and partnerships:
- Represent Discovery as a Board member of the United Nations Global Compact local network
- Represent Discovery as a member of the Social Transformation Advisory Committee
- Represent Discovery as a member of the Shared Value Africa Initiative Working Group
- Strategically, develop and deliver relevant communications, presentations, reports on the Group's Sustainability progress
- Maintain key strategic memberships and participate in relevant events
Sustainability Budget
- Develop and motivate for the annual budget for sustainability
- Monitor expenditure against the budget
- Provide justification for major deviations, if required
- Authorise expenditure on sustainability related budget
HR Management
- Develop annual work plan for sustainability team, associated KPIs and tracking against these
- Conduct performance appraisals of the Reporting and Data Specialist and the Sustainability Administrator
- Facilitate the Individual Development Plans in conjunction with members of the sustainability team
- Develop the job specifications, requirements and KPIs for individuals within the sustainability team
- Authorise leave and other HR related queries for the Reporting and Data Specialist and the Sustainability Administrator
Education and Experience
- Minimum 10 years experience in overall general business regulatory reporting
- Over 5 years experience in ESG and related areas.
- Good understanding of ESG trends and Regulatory development and ability to research the emerging trends
- Strong Project Management skills
- Ability to engage with and present to external and internal including board members and Group executives
- Ability to network or already have a network in world of sustainability and build partnerships and connections outside of the organization
- Ability to collaborate and influence with employee's across the Group to deliver on projects
- Ability to influence key stakeholders
