Role Purpose:


Lead the development and use of energy data analytics and management systems to deliver continuous improvement, ongoing compliance and common best practices across all relevant Business Units in Vodacom South Africa.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Renewable engineering and decarbonisation
  • Assist in the development and formulation of a decarbonisation strategy blueprint, supporting objectives and targets of Vodacom Group, and oversee implementation.
  • Research and investigate new and innovative energy solutions to existing problems, delivering proof of concepts to support the selection of technology and solutions to fulfil the objectives and targets of Vodacom South Africa.
  • Enable the deployment and integration of digital systems through policy, procedures, and automation to deliver continuous improvement through enhanced tracking and visibility of energy performance.
  • Maintain and update renewable energy plans, including the business cases and associated budgets.
  • Support and provide input into vendor discussions and evaluations. Provide technical guidelines to support objectives.

  • Drive the creation of policies and processes to standardise the collection of energy data from different sources and systems, in line with sustainability and reporting requirements.
  • Implement the automation of data collection where possible to improve speed and quality of data collection, in order to enable data driven decision making to identify energy efficiency and cost savings opportunities.
  • Maintain the VSA EnMS and ensure all requirements are adhered to, ensuring continued compliance to the ISO50001 standard.
  • Provide technical support to identify and assist with the technical requirements for compliance to claim energy incentives, grants, and funding (eg 12L tax incentive).
  • Drive compliance to policy, management systems and resource efficiency through audits.

Technical / Professional Qualifications:


  • A 3year Degree/Diploma in Electrical engineering or data science with a focus on energy management.
yrs relevant experience

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) would be advantageous.
  • Measuring and verification experience (M&V) would be advantageous
  • Certification in energy data analytics would be advantageous.

Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:


  • Extensive experience scoping and evaluating renewable energy solutions and technologies, including the development of business cases.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the development of reports, technical requirement specifications, business intelligence reports, policies and procedures
  • Fundamental understanding of the different mechanisms to achieve netzero status, including Power Purchase Agreements, Renewable Energy Certificates and onsite renewable deployments such as photovoltaic and wind turbine systems.
  • Knowledge of a typical telecommunication network, including significant energy users
  • 5+ years experiencing managing energy data for analytic purposes, incentive support, improved efficiency and business case development
  • Advanced skills to ensure quality and assurance for energy data and analytics.
  • Industry leading experience understanding energy management systems and the implementation thereof (eg ISO
  • 5+ years' experience in energy management, including the identification of significant energy users, energy drivers and the development of energy baselines, particularly in the telecommunications industry.
  • Ability to work with crossfunctional teams and streamline workflow processes.
