REPUTABLE GLOBAL CONSULTING FIRM is currently expanding their team of professionals.
This individual will support the delivery of the transport portfolio, including institutional, policy, organisational, strategy, business advisory and implementation work in this sector.
One would describe you as a highly intelligent, open-minded and energetic problem-solver who has multi-perspective views on international development, particularly in transport-related topics.
You have a keen interest in working towards a desired outcome on complex and ambiguous client problems and have the ability to research and translate findings into products.
You are possess strong work ethic, are self-motivated and demonstrate high standards of achievement. You also have good time management skills, with the ability to meet task deadlines within timeframe and budget. Demonstrable ability to clearly break down and explain a complex topic verbally and in writing.KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Defining client problems concisely, in simple terms, and developing hypotheses to identify solutions, working collaboratively with clients
- Leading or coordinating quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify suitable solutions This includes applying:
- Quantitative research methodologies, including data mining, creating financial models, and other analysis
- Qualitative research and problemsolving methodologies, including towards the development of business cases, feasibility studies, business plans and strategies
- Initiating and/or facilitating discussions with clients to elaborate on project solution proposals
- Leading or coordinating the development of highquality project deliverables, including slide decks, reports, financial models or other analytical tools
- Presenting findings to clients, partners and senior decisionmakers in government, development finance and the private sector with a high level of confidence
- Managing crossfunctional and geographically dispersed teams tackling complex business, economic and social challenges for clients
- Cultivating and managing relationships with clients and stakeholders
- Managing stakeholders, both in the formal and informal sectors that the Company works with and assisting the clients in doing the same
- Managing subcontractors, including overseeing the delivery of highquality deliverables by these parties
- Developing knowledge products on topics in the sectors that the Company works in
- Supporting project management and administration, to comply with client or company requirements and standard procedures
- Making an active contribution to developing new business opportunities, building on current project work and through proposal development
- Contributing to practice and companywide strategic initiatives
- Mentoring and managing junior staff where applicable
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
_ Required_
- A post graduate qualification in an appropriate field including (but not limited to)
Transport Planning, Transport Studies, Transport Engineering, Transport Economics and / or Urban Planning:
7-8 years of practical public transport planning experience, including network planning, service design and public transport operations:- Must have a trackrecord of
academic excellence: - Good exposure to
research, analysis, synthesis and problem-solving: - Must be able to think logically and independently as well as construct clear and compelling arguments
- Must demonstrate or have a track record of leadership or entrepreneurial aptitude
- Must demonstrate track record of leading stakeholder and client engagements
- Must demonstrate track record in leading multidisciplinary teams
- Must have interdisciplinary interests and skills
- Must have a good understanding of
public transport and the link between landuse and transport planning: - Broad knowledge of emerging best practices and
sustainable public transport approaches and principles, financing and operations: - Understanding and ability to
interpret transport modelling outputs, some
modelling ability or experience will be an added advantage - Demonstrable experience in
public transport survey data analysis: - Must have a good understanding of
transport planning issues in developing economies
_ Preferred_
- An understanding of the unique public transport context and issues in South Africa or any other developing country, including the structure of the public transport industry
- Preparing presentations to capture key findings, project outcomes, and / or project approach
- A keen interest or previous exposure to anyone (or all) of the following areas:
- South African public transport policy & legislation / transport modelling / dealing with public sector clients
- Multiple South African languages
