**Job Title : Research Nurse - FIND Research Project

Annual Salary :
Occupation Specific Dispensation (OSD)***
Location :FPD Research Unit, East London


Reporting to :
Project Coordinator***
Purpose of the position:To implement the trial component of the FIND research project at the PHC/CHC facility through
participant recruitment and enrolment, completion of research study documentation, collection,
and processing of biological specimens as well as virginal swabs.


Main responsibilities:


  • To enroll women and men as specified in the study protocol and respecting the ethical
principles.***- To ensure completion of study documentation through participant interviews and retrieval of


information from various paper and digital sources such as RedCap.***- To test vaginal swabs for STIs using the onsite GeneXpert platform.

***- To obtain, process and store other biological specimens from participants for offsite

laboratory testing in line with good laboratory practice.***- To provide high-quality of sexually transmitted infections management as specified in the


study protocol and in line with the existing clinical care standards.***- To implement retention support strategies together with the senior field workers.***- Ensure GCP compliance.***- Ensure Protocol compliance.***- Ensure Protocol violations, adverse events or note-to-files are reported to managing staff.***- Conduct quality checks on data collected.***- Reporting of any challenges or progress within the study.***- To participate in monthly facility meetings and FPD clinical and skills development meetings.

***- To effectively manage the facility study site including stock and storage of resources and


ensuring that the study space is well-organized, neat, and clean.***- To maintain confidentiality always.***- To perform any reasonable study duty as requested by the site manager.

Essential Qualification and Registration:
  • Diploma/Degree in Nursing (General, Psychiatry, Community & Midwifery)
  • Active registration with South African Nursing Council as Midwife.

Advantageous qualifications:


  • MSc, BSc or other degree in public health.
  • Good Clinical Practice certificate.
  • Diploma or degree in research methodology.

Job-related experience required:


  • Strong knowledge of the guidelines for management of STIs.
  • Documented ultrasonography competency (advantageous).
  • Recruitment of study participants (advantageous).
  • Electronic data collection and management of study documentation.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in clinical midwifery.
  • Experience in clinical research (advantageous).

Additional requirements:


  • Proficiency in reading, speaking, and writing Xhosa and English.
  • Proficiency in another local language will be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid code 08 driver's license.
  • Willingness to travel.
