Headwear24, Africa's largest headwear manufacturer, is seeking skilled and qualified hydraulic click press operators (cutters) to join their rapidly expanding CMT operation in Hammarsdale.

1. Job Purpose
To cut pieces (panels) of fabric or other materials such as vinyl, etc. to be sewn into complete headwear garments according to a pattern.

Key Result Areas:

Consistent use of the correct blades at all times
Cutting scores to be maintained at the required standard
Bundling scores to be maintained at the required standard

Key Duties:

Ensures that the cutting room work area and equipment is clean and tidy at all times
Selects the correct blades and cutting method for the type of fabric / material / style
Ensures that the Lay received for cutting has breakers for each roll/shade and the correct number of lays, periodically smoothing out creases and checking the fabric for faults / flaws
Ensures that the Layer is laying the correct number of lays
Ensures that paperwork and seal sample is received for each job.
Ensures that the shade and texture matches 100% to the seal sample
Prepares the cutting blades and reports any damaged blades to the Cutting Room Supervisor immediately
Plans how much to cut from a piece of fabric so as to reduce waste and maximise yield.
Cuts panels according to the lay plan
Completes a "First Off" sample cut for approval before commencement of bulk cutting
Adheres strictly to established cutting procedures at all times without deviation, unless otherwise instructed by the CEO.
Completes the Cutting Sheet during the cutting process (document containing panel diagrams)
Reports any circumstances which may arise that might affect quality and ontime delivery of the order to the Cutting Room Supervisor
Reports the correct number of bodies he achieves for every marker
Ensures the achievement of daily targets
Maintains a high level of awareness while cutting and avoids wastage and delays, while adhering strictly to safe operating procedures.
Stores blades in an orderly manner, careful to avoid positioning which may cause damage to the blades.
Reports all cut figures for completed shift on M
Reports on issues such as Shortages, Extras or rejects on Fabric as per order

Skills & Competencies

A minimum matric (NQF4) or equivalent level of education is preferred
An apprenticeship or National Certificate in a relevant Skills Programme would be advantageous
A minimum of between 35 years' experience in the cutting room in a clothing manufacturing environment.
Indepth knowledge of fabrics and trims essential
Superior analytical and problemsolving skills
Exceptional organisation and timemanagement skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Accurate and precise attention to detail
Able to function effectively in a high stress environment
Physically fit and able to stand, sit, move, squat, walk and climb during the course of the shift. Able to lift heavy objects, up to 30 kg or more.
Willingness to work overtime and/or shifts when required
