    CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

    The Deputy Vice-Chancellor [DVC] is a member of the executive of the University and actively supports the Vice-Chancellor [VC] in the strategic leadership and management of the University by leading and participating in the University-wide decision-making processes, towards achieving the strategic objectives of the institution in line with Vision 2030 and beyond.

    Reporting directly to the VC, the primary responsibility of this job is to provide strategic and executive leadership to advance and elevate the Universitys research and innovation excellence agenda, including internationalisation. The incumbent will be responsible for the leadership and management of the portfolios of Research, Innovation, Internationalisation, and Library and Information services, to advance the Universitys vision, mission, and strategies considering the multi-campus nature of the institution and its national imperatives.

    Following the name-change of the University to Nelson Mandela University, our intention is to further consolidate our scholarly footprint nationally, continentally, and globally, and to sharpen the social justice perspective of our work. The critical role of the DVC in this portfolio cannot be over-emphasised enough.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

    To strategically direct, provide leadership and management in respect of:

    • Research, Innovation, Internationalisation, and the Library and Information Services.
    • The conceptualisation and execution of research and innovation.
    • Internationalisation and expansion of the Universitys international profile.
    • Stakeholder engagement, liaison, and networking.
    • Strategic leadership, guidance, and management of institutional research entities, and Research Chairs.
    • Managing human resources in the portfolio.
    • Stewardship over financial and physical resources and assets of the portfolio.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Relevant PhD.

    At least 10 15 years relevant experience including management experience.

    All shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo psychometric assessments. Furthermore, it is expected that all short-listed candidates will:

    • Permit to undergo verifications of qualifications, publications, credit records, and criminal records as well as any other verification deemed appropriate by the University;
    • Deliver a 15-minute presentation, the topic of which will be communicated timeously; and,
    • Provide details of at least three individuals who can provide professional references.
