Job Title: TEMP LAYOUT ARTIST/ DESKTOP - JOHANNESBURG - GAUTENG

  • Design and layout of marketing publications, as well as reports and other written outputs related to its strengthening and research implementation projects.
  • Layout support for authors of abstracts, posters and presentations intended for conference speaker participation.
  • Development of branded marketing materials, e.g. launch posters, vehicle branding, and other promotional items.
  • Development of digital artwork and banners for websites and social media platforms.
  • Dissemination/upload support of the Bulletin, 60percent and external newsletter.
  • Design and layout of the Board Pack, Annual Report and staff newsletter.
  • Liaise with production and print service providers to ensure timeous and high quality delivery of print and online products.
  • Develop and manage an image repository.
  • Research appropriate creative references and trends from the internet, relevant publications and other sources to propose innovative or fresh solutions for layouts, graphics, and infographics.
  • Provide input for regular updating of corporate identity guidelines and other relevant policies, procedures and protocols for quality assurance.
  • Contribute to development of systems for efficient work flow management (from creative brief to delivery) to ensure jobs are completed within agreed timeframes.
  • Liaise with the CCE / authors/ commissioning managers to provide design and layout feedback, ensure tasks are executed to specification and resolve any emerging queries.
  • Participate in unit, section and other crossfunctional meetings and initiatives for collaboration and alignment to strategic goals.
  • Provide capacitybuilding support for staff, including MS Office user help, basic typesetting, and layout guidelines.
  • Contribute to development of capacitybuilding materials and resources.
  • The role holder will from time to time be required to carry out any other duties that are within the scope of the job.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Diploma, preferably a degree in design or desktop publishing or equivalent.
  • Qualification and/or experience in graphic design.
  • English language proficiency both verbal and written.
  • At least three years' experience working as a layout artist, desktop publisher, or other related role.
  • Excellent software skills on the following platforms:


  • PC

  • MS Office (Advanced MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook);


  • Mac

  • Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat), Dreamweaver, BBEdit or equivalent).
  • Extensive experience in laying out diverse and complex publications written for internal and external audiences.
  • Solid understanding and effective use of typography and typesetting in layouts.
  • Ability to interpret information and plan creative outputs according to the communications needs.
  • Good knowledge of press production process and protocols, and ability to execute jobs from concept to print.
