The Market Research function crafts economic advantage for Philip Morris International by enabling decision makers to act on a consistent and insightful understanding of consumers.

As PMI amplifies its transformation to a consumer-centric organization, the Market Research function is becoming strategically important, and we're currently looking for an experienced and dedicated data analytics and insights professional to join the team in South Africa.

The role of the Data Analytics Specialist known in our environment known as a "Data Scientist & Analytics Lead" and is responsible to support the organization in redefining our business and our consumer-centricity by:

  • Deploying global data products and models across the 20+ markets across MEA, CIS & SSEA (Our region)So
  • Develop and deploy new data science models as required for the markets
  • Develop and deploy data visualizations as the go to source for on demand analytics
  • Building tools and analytic engines to provide indepth rootcause analysis of critical experiences, pain points and delights
  • Connecting the dots across a variety of data sources and continuously building our knowledge about the consumer
Your 'day to day'

Global Deployment


Work closely and network with cross functional global teams to be informed on the latest data products being developed and deployed.

Keep familiar with the ongoing development to ensure the alignment of locally deployed data models using Salesforce, Treasure data, Snowflake and/or AWS.

Local Deployment


Craft and develop data science models to tackle well defined business challenges at local market level across the region based on consumers insights, research insights and/or market requirements.

Data Infrastructure


Ensure that the development and structuring of data warehouse solutions is aligned to global standards, to be used as a trusted source of information.

Assist markets, guiding local resources on the usage of such warehouse to scale analytics capability.

Analytics, Advanced Analytics & Research


Aligning to global standards, analyse, structure and present data by breaking down or connecting different data sets to add business value and translate the data into compelling stories to encourage action from the business.

Lead the analysis when combining core market data and data from research outputs, present key findings, and recommendations to hub heads.

Identify techniques for breaking down data silos and reporting insights inside markets to create deeper insights that serve the demands of the market and its consumers ultimately boosting clarity.

Visualization & Automation

Provide assistance in automating time-consuming reports or reinvent repetitive tasks. Guide/ Develop data dashboards based on market requirements or data science models that assist markets in making valuable decisions.

Establish data visualization techniques and analytics to use data creatively and to provide the ability to see what was previously invisible.

Capability Building

Support multiple teams/colleagues by explaining simple Data Science and Analytics methodologies and walkthroughs of different tools.

Innovation

Develop/propose fresh insights and data utilisation strategies that help businesses to see/use an alternative to the usual.

Who we're looking for

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Marketing, business, mathematics, statistics, and advanced analytics.
  • Post graduate qualifications in the above are highly regarded
  • Minimum 6+ years working experience in a consumer insights, analytics role, or similar environment
  • Excellent with data processing: SQL and calculations with it, scripting languages (Python, R), data visualization front & backend (e.g., Power BI, Microsoft Excel, Power Point) is critical
  • Solid experience working with text analytics, process mining, B2C c
