QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Applicants for the position should possess a first degree in chemical engineering, as well as a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering. Registration or eligibility for registration as a professional engineer (Pr.
Eng.) will be a distinct advantage.

A reasonable period of experience in industry or in a research organization (5 years or more) will be an advantage.


  • A record of previous undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience, as well as supervision of at least (2) two masters students to completion is required. Supervision of doctoral students to completion is recommended.
  • Immediate availability at short notice is desirable.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

  • Facilitate and guide large groups of undergraduate students.
  • Engage in continuous development of the programme, adapting it to the everchanging challenges facing the university and/or society.
  • Undertake research in his/her area of expertise in a productive manner and publish research papers in the internationally accredited journals.
  • Expand existing and initiate new research programmes, raise, and manage funds from national and international funding agencies and industry.
  • Supervise postgraduate students at master's and doctoral level for MSc (Eng) and PhD qualifications.
  • Undertake assigned school duties of an administrative nature.
  • The school has an established reputation for the quality of its graduates and research. The school appropriate facilities and houses a SARChI research chair in the area of hydrometallurgy and sustainable development. Excellent opportunities exist for consultation/collaboration with the chemical/mineral processing industries.
