Requirements for the job

  • Current registration with the HPCSA as an occupational therapist in independent practice.
  • At least three (3) years' clinical experience in work practice, or productive occupations.
  • Must have a South African driver's license.

The following will be advantageous

  • A postgraduate qualification in Health Sciences Education.
  • Experience in clinical supervision of undergraduate occupational therapy students.
  • Experience in teaching and research supervision of students.
  • Postgraduate qualification in work practice, driving rehabilitation, and/or vocational rehabilitation.
  • A PhD.

Responsibilities:


a)
Teaching and Learning
b) Undergraduate teaching in work practice (including vocational rehabilitation) and productive occupations (including driving).

c) Postgraduate teaching in an appropriate field.

d) Undergraduate and postgraduate research supervision and examining.

e) Clinical supervision and examination of undergraduate occupational therapy students in work practice and physical, or psychiatric clinical placements.


f) Curriculum development and review.


g) Developing contextually relevant under
- and postgraduate teaching materials in work practice and driving.


h) Contribute to designing a contextually relevant work practice curriculum inclusive of emergent practice areas in the field of work and productivity.


i) Contribute to the development and the maintaining of standards of the undergraduate Problem Based Learning educational program.

Research

  • Develop a research profile, publish annually and contribute to the departmental research programme.
  • Complete a PhD.

k)
Administration, Management and Income Generation Activities

  • Administration of student marks, fieldwork, and examination timetables.
  • Set and mark tests and examinations, compile marks and organize and coordinate fieldwork blocks.
  • Coordination of year groups and/or courses, including monitoring students' participation in learning activities and academic performance.
  • Contribute to the Department's Income Generation Programmes.

Professional Development and Service to the Academic and Professional Community

  • Contribute to the general promotion and development of the department and the profession within the school, university and community.
  • Contribute to department, school, faculty and university meetings.
  • Contribute to the development of the profession, e.g. through participation in professional bodies.
  • Develop professional knowledge and skill as an occupational therapy academic and educator and researcher.
  • Develop professional knowledge and skill in the field of vocational rehabilitation and work practice.
