Description

The Infrastructure and Engineering Department plays a pivotal role in the maintenance and improvement of the University's infrastructure. We seek to employ a skilled, knowledgeable and resourceful individual.


Reporting to the Manager:
Maintenance
the appointee's duties will include, but not be limited to the below and execution of the following tasks:

  • Pro-active planning, organizing, allocating, controlling and monitoring of the Carpentry Section's resources to ensure timeous and adequate responses to service requests;
  • Execution of the section's objectives and implementation of policies e.g. SHE, quality control, procurement, cost management.
  • Addressing of operational issues, troubleshooting, resolving problems and submitting reports / business cases to address issues /risks / incidents
  • Providing of timeous feedback on incidents / issues / risks
  • Providing weekly / monthly / quarterly operational reports
  • Monitoring, requesting and replacing of equipment / assets
  • Monitoring and enforcing the dress code, timekeeping and attendance as per UWC policies and standards
  • Coordinating planned maintenance & project tasks with other stakeholders
  • Defining and updating parts and equipment specifications
  • Coordinate team activities ( in house staff, contractors and consultants)
  • Maintain professionalism with all UWC stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective Financial Management and reporting
  • Keep up to date with technology with a focus on sustainability

Minimum Requirements

Consequently you essentially require:


  • Senior certificate
  • Completed Trade Test certificate
  • Completed 3 year Apprenticeship
  • 5 years' experience, with 2 years proven supervisory experience.
  • Basic computer literacy in MS-Word and Excel.
  • A valid drivers' license (with two years driving experience)
  • Superior planning and organisational skills
  • Good knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations
  • Good knowledge of compliance requirements and standards (ISO, SANS, GMR etc.)
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work under pressure with adherence to deadlines
  • Ability to work without supervision.
