THE BUSINESS UNIT

The Facultative Team is responsible for underwriting and ensuring the profitability of the single-risk facultative reinsurance portfolio for Property, Engineering, and Casualty risks in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.

THE TEAM

The Property Facultative Team is a dynamic team of professionals who tackle the various opportunities and challenges associated with client management, market relationships, lead generation, pricing, underwriting, monitoring, and managing Munich Re's sub-Saharan facultative portfolio.

YOUR JOB

Developing and growing a sustainable book of facultative engineering business within the markets of Sub Saharan Africa, including assessing the risks, evaluating and providing reinsurance terms and conditions in accordance with the applicable underwriting authority, underwriting guidelines, internal directives.
Actively driving and shaping the portfolio in accordance with the applicable portfolio targets and client strategies.
Active development of new business through senior and strategic relationships visavis clients and brokers, both local and international.
Providing support to Operational Management and technical / mentorship of the engineering team and junior staff members
Developing innovative insurance solutions and products in addition to conventional covers in close cooperation with other MRoA and Regional business units.
Providing expert advice to MRoA Treaty Underwriters.
Organizing and conducting seminars/workshops for clients and internal staff, providing clients with valueadded services.
Organizing and conducting surveys of large/complex engineering risks for clients, including preparing internal and external reports (if required).
Executing portfolio performance and market analysis.
Maintaining and expanding technical and market knowhow for both internal and external stakeholders.

YOUR PROFILE

BSC Engineering, plus 5 years practical field experience
Minimum of 10 years professional experience in Engineering (re)insurance with sound technical underwriting abilities and knowhow.
Insurance & Reinsurance Market Intelligence
Preparedness to travel with a passion for conducting business in Sub Sahara Africa.
Capabilities and passion to actively conduct and solicit business opportunities.
Good IT and analytical skills.
Conscientious business acumen, creativity.
Good communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
