  • The Safety Officer is a legal appointment in terms Occupational health and safety Act. This role is responsible for the development, implementation and management of safety and risk control programmes within the processing plant, as well as ensuring legal compliance and provision of a safety advisory and reporting service to the Operational Unit or Area.

**Job Description

  • You will also be responsible for**:
  • Development of standards and procedures
  • Short range operational unit planning
  • Facilitate accident investigations
  • Carry out statutory inspections
  • Compile safety reports
  • Check compliance to safety systems
  • Check corrective action status

This role in the Safety Department at a Band 7 and reports to the Chief Safety Officer.
**Qualifications

  • You should have**:
  • Grade 12 or Equivalent
  • National Diploma/ Degree in Safety/Health/Environmental or equivalent (Advantageous)

Experience required:


  • 3 years relevant Mining / Process / Engineering/ Training experience
  • Smelters exposure (Advantageous)

Knowledge and Skills:


  • Computer literate (MS Power point, Word, Excel, Access and Projects)
  • Managing Others
  • Managing projects
  • Train the Trainer
  • Presentation and Facilitation skills
  • Auditors courses for Safety and Risk Control management
  • Risk Assessment facilitation
  • Root cause analysis: (5 Why, Fault Tree Analysis, RCAT, etc)
  • Accident investigation
  • Basic emergency management response
  • Behaviour Based Safety
Additional Information

  • If successful, you will be required to undergo a Medical Fitness Certification.
