Job Advert Summary:


PURPOSE:


  • To undertake geological activities in support of the geology team in regard to resource investigations, characterisation and resource utilisation.

MAJOR CHALLENGES:


  • Conducting first geological principles in regard to data gathering, capture, analysis, interpretation and data management.

  • BSc (Hons) Geology (Essential/Minimum)
  • Certificate First Line Management (Recommended/Desirable)

EXPERIENCE:

3-5 years Relevant job-specific Geology experience (Essential/Minimum) Operational


REQUIREMENTS:


  • Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum)
  • Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum)
  • SA Council for Natural Scientific Prof (Recommended/Desirable or)
  • SA Council for Geosciences (Recommended/Desirable)

Duties & Responsibilities:


Best Practice and Knowledge Management

  • Facilitate the process of knowledge sharing between the various team members as to ensure accurate and effective data/information flow and use
  • Participate in investigations of improvement opportunities and participate in the evaluation of disciplinespecific principles and practice
  • Support the resident geologist by identifying gaps/risks within the current process as to improve effective data flow and communication

Business Performance and Operations

  • Conduct programs and activities (drill planning, contractor management, data gathering, data management, drill supervision, bore hole depth control, geological logging, profiling, correlating, sampling, Research and Development (RD) and core recovery calculation, preparation of sample list etc.)
  • Implement and conduct sound geological structural principles by conducting data gathering (e.g. pit mapping), data capture and interpretation
  • Support sound grade control measures in regard to measurement and reconciliation
  • Ensure that activities are always aligned with the strategy as outlined by the Resident Geologist
  • Support in the translation of discipline strategy into systems, structures/processes to support implementation
  • Ensure that all activities are conducted in a time and costeffective manner
  • Report anomalies, which will influence the budget and expenditure, to the resident geologist
  • Support the Resident Geologist in his obligation of providing a resource of integrity to the planning, mining and metallurgical disciplines
  • Interact professionally with other disciplines and provide information accurately and timelessly
  • Support the Resident Geologist performance excellence initiatives and highperformance culture
  • Act as mentor when required

Compliance, Governance and Assurance

  • Adhere to International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO Quality) in regard to accurate/correct data capture and the management of grade control procedures
  • Support the resident geologist in the implementation of the Company's mineral policies, procedures and standards
  • Implement Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) controls for all job activities

Consulting and Project Services

  • Conduct technical evaluations and assessments of the resource when requested by the Resident Geologist
  • Execute effective contract management with drilling, laboratories and other service providers
  • Provide accurate and timely information for the mining, metallurgical and planning disciplines

Safe and Healthy Work Environment

  • Adhere to all health/safety practices and promote good housekeeping on an ongoing basis
  • Address all unsafe practices and potential hazardous situations and rectify/report to superior
  • Comply with Safety Health Environment and Community (SHEC) and technical requirements
  • Comply with Standard Practice Instructions/Business Practice Instructions (SPI/BPI's) and Management Instructions (MI's) that is applicable to specific Appointment
  • Comply with regulation 22 and 23 and 29 of Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) of 199
  • Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS)
18001 (Health and Safety) in regard to your own health and that of your co-workers
