PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

  • This role exists to plan, design, draw and coordinate drawing requests from various departments and to ensure that safety and engineering specifications are built into all designs within a specified time frame with the least pollable come backs;
  • It is also to ensure availability and maintenance of all forms and types of drawings on site which is a fundamental requirement for continued operations and plays an important role in relation to record keeping of existing infrastructure, plant designs, general understanding of the existing plant and equipment and reticulation systems as well as for statutory conformance

This includes the following:

  • Drawing Office Standards
  • Maintaining, updating, and ensuring compliance to standards;
  • Drawings in the system
  • Ensure that all drawings in the system are accurately aligned to existing plant and equipment on site.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

RESOURCE PLANNING AND EXECUTION

  • Ensuring alignment of existing drawings in the system to all plant and equipment on site inclusive of PID's, General layout, Design, Electrical, instrumentation and any other drawings required;
  • Maintenance of the existing CAD drawing system and architecture;
  • Maintaining and updating the drawing register, drawing numbering system, revisions, and transmittals;
  • To ensure that drawing offices practices are adhered to by maintaining and ensuring compliance to standards and regulations whenever changes are made;
  • Capturing all OEM drawings based on the installation of new equipment on site;
  • Custodian of Drawings for purchasing of service & maintenance items;
  • Recording and maintaining municipal approval for alterations etc.;
  • Consultation with other services providers and consultants in relation to approved drawings for construction;
  • Arranging for additional resources, where required, to ensure compliance to systems and drawings;
  • Printing and plotting of various documents;
  • To liaise with production and engineering personnel on suitable designs and equipment to ensure acceptance of design and the successful implementation of the project on an agreed time frame.

DECISION MAKING

  • Decisions making is aligned to the Supervision and Maintenance of the systems, drawings, and architecture of all drawings and records on site;
  • Drawings require approval by authorised persons responsible.

DIVERSITY OF WORK

  • Accountability for all drawing office systems, standards practices, and procedures required to ensure that drawing records and information is an accurate and true reflection of Rand Refinery assets and infrastructure.

TYPES OF COMMUNICATION

  • Detailed technical and/or functional instructions or queries;
  • Communication around escalated or difficult queries with internal and external customers or clients;
  • Detailed verbal or written instructions or requests to employees or contractors;
  • Transfer of complex/complicated information or persuasion of individual people inside or outside of the organisation.

EXTERNAL CUSTOMERS

  • Collaboration with external suppliers and organizations relating to new equipment installations, designs, and consumable spares.

INTERNAL CUSTOMERS

  • Liaise with all site staff from Technical and operations managers and Supervisors to secretaries and admin staff.

RESOURCE PLANNING AND EXECUTION

  • Schedule compliance to the plan based on SAP notifications.

OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES

  • Compliance to the Rand Refinery drawing office standard and procedures;
  • Maintaining and inventory and hierarchy of all drawings on site;
  • Ensuring that all drawings in the Drawing system are an accurate representation of the plant and infrastructure. Management of the drawing revisions;
  • Time management and control based on agreed schedules;
  • Releasing of drawings for construction only upon approval by customer and engineer only;


  • Cost management

  • Allocation of costs for time spend on drawings as requested by customers as per schedule.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Complies with and ensures that all health and safety rules are met and acts proactively by addressing any safety concerns which may be harmful to self or other employees.
  • Provides information and participates in formal SHEQ Audits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • Minimum of Grade 12;

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Maintenance of drawing management system (drawing register, drawing numbering system, revisions, transmittals);
  • Must be proficient in compiling drawings related to Civil, structural, mechanical, piping, and E&CI;
  • Fully proficient with Drawing office standards;
  • Microsoft Office.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • More than 5 years' practical draughting experience on the Auto-Cad package;
  • More than 5 years' of experience in an Engineering related Supervisory role;
