About Thabiso Malepa:
I am currently completing my Masters's degree in Civil Engineering (RD) in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of Johannesburg, Kingsway Auckland Park Campus. I am a hardworking student, who is very passionate about engineering. I recently completed my BEng degree in Civil engineering last year in 2021, and have never failed a module. I am also involved in helping the youth of my community, by tutoring Mathematics and physical sciences to high school students in my spare time and I am also a tutor at the University of Johannesburg. Moreover, I am serving as a member of UJ Civils and the South Africa Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE).
I have worked part-time assistant as a cyber café assistant, where I was required to do various things such as assisting customers with prepaid internet / wireless internet facilities and ensuring they get the best service. I particularly enjoyed this as you gain an opportunity to personally interact and communicate with customers, thereby developing my customer service skills and understanding of consumer behavior. Furthermore, I have completed short courses called Engineering Project Management offered by Coursera, these short courses have taught me good time management, responsibility, how to be a self-starter and how to work well in a team. During my university years, I have managed to acquire skills in Autocad, Civil design 3D, Excel, Microsoft word, Epanet and Revit.
Experience
As a Graduate, I mostly have theoretical knowledge, however, during my university years I have been enhancing my engineering skills by attending engineering conferences hosted by SAICE and UJ Civils. Education
I have completed my BEng degree in civil engineering last year and I am currently pursuing MEng degree in Civil engineering. The reason why I chose this career path is because as a kid, I always excelled at mathematics and physical sciences. I wanted to pursue a career that would utilize my math skills, so I decided that engineering would be the best path for me. I got into civil engineering because I believe infrastructure is the foundation of our civilization. Without it, we wouldn’t have safe and efficient roads to drive on or a healthy economy. What I enjoy about civil engineering is my part in the creative and visionary process. I get satisfaction out of knowing that I’m making a difference to the way people live and work
