About Tayla Mc Gregor:

I am a dedicated and hard-working writer with a profound passion for crafting stories and artistic expression to incite transformation. My focus has gravitated towards the realm of storytelling. Over the last two and a half years, I have honed my skills in the intricate domains of television writing and editing. Presently, I stand at a crossroads, eager to embark on a new journey into academia. My tenure in university not only cemented my adoration for writing but also fostered a deep-seated appreciation for research, analytical acumen, and critical thinking. I believe that these are my strengths. I love to utilise and celebrate the power of words to convey stories and ideas. Moreover, my innate empathy serves as a strong asset to create meaningful connections with people and enhance my ability to engage with diverse perspectives.

Experience

For the past two and a half years, I have been an integral part of the dynamic team at Content Lab, a dubbing studio in Cape Town. In my role as a Creative English Editor, I passionately engage with the scripts of television dramas and films that have undergone translation from foreign languages into English. My responsibilities encompass a range of tasks, including editing, localisation, and skillfully adapting the content to resonate with English-speaking audiences.

Prior to my time at Content Lab, I had the privilege of being associated with Exclusive Books, a prominent bookstore, during my tenure at university. This experience provided me with valuable insights into the literary world and allowed me to cultivate a deep appreciation for written expression and the power of storytelling.

Education

I earned both my Bachelor of Arts and Honours degrees at the esteemed University of Cape Town. Throughout my undergraduate years from 2016 to 2019, I pursued a diverse academic path, undertaking a triple major encompassing Media and Writing, Film and Television Studies, and English Literary Studies. Subsequently, I delved deeper into my academic journey by completing my Honours degree, in 2020, with a dedicated focus on Film and Television Studies.

My commitment and academic excellence during these years were recognised when I graduated in 2019 on the Dean's Merit List. This accolade underscored my dedication and drive for academic achievement. Building upon this foundation, my pursuit of a post-graduate degree culminated in the attainment of a first-class distinction, further displaying my commitment and appreciation to academic excellence.
