About Raeghaana Mathews:

I am passionate about people and sales that may change lives. I have had excellent customer service orientation and customer relations during the time that I have been employed.

I currently have a certificate through UCT and GetSmarter for Project management. Additional to this I have experience and a BTech qualification in Biomedical Technology. I have seven years of experience at WPBTS as a qualified Medical Technologist in immunohaematology.

I have worked in many divisions at Western Cape Blood Service. This includes the blood bank, Virology and Reference laboratory. Many interfaces have changed and have been altered according to the needs. Our ongoing project is to accomplish the optimal working area which has been as paperless as possible or to create an interface which can limit errors.

In Virology I was responsible for the HIV results being released to the other departments. This meant that the donor’s blood was then released into the blood bank as it was okay to use. This means ultimate decision making. Controls, calibrations, validations of machinery and reagents had to be in place for all testing.

Reference Laboratory has expanded my knowledge concerning Immunohaematology Investigations. I am able to accomplish almost all purposes of the job vacancy with my past experience. Continuous application of the duties will allow me to excel at it.

All Laboratories taught me trouble shooting which made me think logically and tested my knowledge at times. In all laboratories we used the proper PPE that was allocated to us and were used at all times that were necessary. All patient samples were treated at infectious and carefully handled.

At the moment at WCBS, the Lean project is taking place. I am extremely involved in this. This includes raising awareness of all aspects that needs attention. Calling any meetings, similarly to the health and safety meetings that I attend as I am the representative as well. Implementations are also done as the chapters unravel.

In all the laboratories strong computer literacy, project management and presentation skills are a must. Good communication, problem solving skills and interpersonal relations as well. All laboratories work as a team and at national and international congresses presentations are a must.

My teaching and interpersonal skills are tested regularly with trainees and assisting in doing blood grouping screening workshops in various places, which are more question based interaction. In addition I have done an investigation in our laboratory concerning our new HIV quick test kits that we are using right now.

My personality allows me to work independently as well as in a group. Decision making and problem solving are part of my strengths as well. This is noted together with oral and written communication skills. I have always been an optimistic and enthusiastic individual. I have always taken initiative through being helpful with regard to outstanding or upcoming projects.

Ultimately I believe that I am a great candidate and that I possess the necessities for the above position. My strong personality can lead people easily.
