Olwethu Matinise

As a SHERQ Intern at Bidvest Freight, I ensure compliance with various laws, regulations, and standards related to occupational health and safety, environmental management, and quality control. I facilitate contractor and stakeholder engagements, conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, coordinate the SHE committee, and conduct site inductions and safety talks. Participate in TNPA housekeeping inspections. I have successfully participated in projects within the cutler complex (PIMAD exercise), adhering to the highest standards of SHERQ performance.

I hold an Environmental Health qualification from Mangosuthu University of Technology, and I am registered with HPCSA as an Independent Practitioner and with SAIOH as an Occupational Hygiene Assistant. I have also obtained ethics certificates in Occupational Hygiene, Water Quality Monitoring, HACCP (Food safety), First Aid, Spill control certification and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment. I have previous experience as an Environmental Health Officer and a Project Manager, where I gained skills in importation control, communicable diseases control, administrative duties, regulatory compliance, reporting, documentation and control and monitoring progress. I am ambitious, detail-oriented, and passionate about health, safety, and the environment.

My educational background in Environmental Health and certification as an Occupational Hygiene Assistant has provided me with a solid foundation in key principles of occupational hygiene, safety, health and environmental management. I have experience in contractor management, facilitation of contractor and stakeholder engagements, conducting risk assessments (HIRA certification), coordinating the SHE committee, and conducting site inductions and internal safety trainings. I have successfully participated in projects within the cutler complex (PIMAD/Drill exercise), near miss initiative, chemical spill response training and waste segregation project to mention a few.

I am eager to bring my passion for ensuring a safe and sustainable work environment, coupled with strong attention to detail and analytical mindset, to the position. I am confident that my dedication, adaptability, and willingness to learn will enable me to effectively contribute to the ongoing success and improvement of the company’s HSE systems and SHEQ initiatives.
