About Nomaswazi Nhlanhla:
My name is Nomaswazi Nhlanhla and I’m a recent graduate in BSc Biomedical Science from the University of South Africa. I’m excited to learn, get into the work field and gain experience in Science/ Medical industry. I’m extremely well organized, equipped with good writing skills and I excel at multitasking. I have practical experience in the laboratory, writing reports gained in university projects, outside of school projects, which involved doing practical work, doing teamwork and critical thinking.
I’m currently looking for clinical experience in the medical/ science field. In the duration of my course, the various modules expanded my knowledge and narrowed down the stream of work I’d like to step into. One of the few modules that stuck out to me was Zoonoses and Clinical Pathology. Zoonoses deals with the transmission of infectious diseases between humans and animals, and Clinical Pathology deals with the understanding of diseased cells and tissues, these key modules made me fall in love with internal medicine. Internal Medicine is the goal I am working towards, and with this background knowledge helps, and clinical experience will add onto my knowledge when I do Internal Medicine.
Experience
I have experience as a tour guide assistant at UBuhle Tours from 2016 until present. Through that experience I learnt a lot on how to engage with people, working within a team when preparing for tours and the delegation of tasks. Working at UBuhle Tours, teaches me people’s skills, and learn a lot of the South African historic site, animals. Not everything is covered in school, these interactions during the tours which adds knowledge because I’m exposed to information about other animals and plants. As a tour guide assistant, it’s essential to be aware of the environment you’re engaging in, to inform tourists of any potential danger even most importantly if it’s on a historic site. The duties I engage in is doing meet and greets, preparing and ensuring the food and beverages are ready, escorting the tourists to the transportation provided, giving factual information about the sites we’re viewing.
I have volunteering experience at a sports facility, whereby I am an administrator and do first aid duties. Through that experience it has taught me strong work ethic, gave me an experience with treating the soccer players with injuries, I learnt first-hand how to treat wounds, injuries which I gained knowledge through online course of first aid and not forgetting I’m not afraid to work with blood. In my spare time, I help learners apply to tertiary institutions and bursary applications and through this adds to my volunteering work.
