About Nokuthula Matron Mnguni:
I am persistent and tenacious in my efforts to achieve my goals. When I didn't pass the last year of my high school years, I enrolled at Zululwandle Finishing School and obtained my Grade 12 certificate the following year. While studying for my Grade 12 certificate at night and over weekends, I started working for Woolworths to help my family financially. I took a break from working for Woolworths during 2018 and studied a one-year course in Early Childhood Development at Dokkies Educational Institution.
While I received performance related certificates for my contributions to the company, I view my management of the Mandela Day Scheme in 2015 as a career highlight. I was chosen from entries from Woolworths employees from across Region 1, Division 3 in KZN to drive and manage this project.
A budget was allocated from Woolworths Head Office to our store in Gallaria Mall, Durban. I was given responsibility for the application of this budget to an organisation of our choice. With the assistance of my manager and a seven colleagues, allocated to assist me, we decided to buy a 3-plate gas stove and gas cylinder filled with gas, 3 huge pots and also food for the Bambisandla Care Centre for children. It was a huge honour to manage this campaign and I discovered that I am passionate about children, their welfare and education.
Experience
I worked as a cashier for Woolworths for a total of eight years. I also filled in as a supervisor on Sundays or when there was a shortage of supervisors.
