I am 42 years old and have qualified with Cum Laude in BTech: Electrical Engineering, recently qualified with distinction for my Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management and this year, I have completed my Master in Business Administration (B Aggregate).
As a current member of the Springs Leadership Team, my role as Manufacturing Systems Manager is to drive innovation at Springs Cidery which is the flagship of Distell which is now part of Heineken Beverages. My primary role at Spring is to digitally transform this cidery from a traditional cidery to a smart cidery. Some of the digital initiatives that are currently occurring are MES stability, use of Real Wear VR googles to assist technicians during breakdowns with OEMs from overseas countries and 3D printing. I am also part of the strategic digital transformation initiative team (Centre of Excellence) which constantly looks at further innovations and integration of new digital transformation platforms into every area of work. Involved to new project to roll out MES OEE for all Distell plants. Other tasks are to ensure that governance and compliance of automation and control is adhered to, in regards to design, standards and implementation.

Experience

Heineken Beverages (Previously known as Distell) Position: Manufacturing Systems Manager (Part of Springs Leadership Team) Period: 01 June 2021 – Present Role and Responsibilities: Based at Springs (Biggest Cidery in Heineken)
• Manage and drive innovation at Distell Springs to move it to Smart Cidery.
• Improve and sustain current systems (MES (TrakSYS), Bizware OEE, Version Dog, Warehouse Maintenance System, Real Wear Virtual Reality and Addictive Manufacturing) to perform to their optimal.
• Improve current IT and OT infrastructure by virtualizing the current physical hardware in Cellars and ensuring that WIFI is available at all production areas for digital transformation.
• Build a digital transformation vision and strategy to ensure that Springs is well equipped from a technology viewpoint to meet the rise and demand for their products.
• Involved in scoping and implementing replacement OEE project for Distell. Moving from Rockwell Bizware to MES TrakSYS.
• Working with the innovation team to implement Statistical Process Control (SPC) using tablets at Springs. My aim is to digitalize and move away from paper.
• Ensure governance and compliance of automation and control standards, design and implementation.

ABInBev (Previously known as South African Breweries) Position: Manufacturing Systems Manager (Part of Alrode Leadership Team) Period: 01 October 2019 – 31 May 2021 Role and Responsibilities: Based at SAB Alrode (Biggest brewery In Africa)
• Part of the Brewery of the Future project to fully digitalize Alrode to Smart Brewery as Alrode was the pilot plant. As Head of Automation at Alrode Brewery, my team worked with Solutions Team (Zone ICT Team) to implement MES, Digital Artisan Workstations and Operator Workstations, WIFI connectivity to all parts of production areas, predictive maintenance (vibration sensing) through SEMEQ (Predictive Maintenance Company) and paperless asset care management through tablets and SIGGA (software).
• Manage Service Delivery and Support to the brewery by effective team performance, management, and leadership.
• Manage Manufacturing Systems Software deployment and licensing.
• Identify and motivate technical CAPIN for Manufacturing Systems based on current risk assessment and obsolescence.
• Manage Manufacturing Systems project implementation.
• Manage Manufacturing Systems change control practices through Alrode Request Change system.
• Manage adherence to the Manufacturing Systems standards through VPO block requirements.
• Manage Manufacturing System’s team members.
• Provide leadership to the team in the field of Manufacturing Systems and Technology.
• Leverage business benefit from existing and new Production Execution Systems and Information Systems.
• Infrastructure fibre optic network –identifying risks and remediation (e.g. capin, business cases, and first line problem solving). Back-office servers –first line reaction, problem solving and problem resolution.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

• Recruitment, management, coaching and upskilling of engineers, technicians and artisans.
• Infrastructure i.e., current and future expansions for both E&I and C&A component to facilitate new projects, obsolescence of equipment, risk mitigation against – 5 year rolling plan.
• Technical footprint (new technology) lead for both E&I and C&A.
• Project Management to ensure strategic expansion and technical footprint is adhered to.
• Management of System Integrators to ensure standards adherence and pricing structures etc. are in order.
• Ensure governance and compliance around operations of automated safety systems on site.
• Leverage IT systems within Brewery.
• Manage and optimize virtual cluster of servers for reliability and integrity.
• Work closely with stakeholders to keep abreast with current and future technologies.
• Voyager Plant Optimization (VPO) implementation in team and environment through 5S, Global Operating Practices (GOPS), Artisan Workstation (AWS), Total Quality Management (TQM), Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) and Improvement Task Force (ITF).
• Involved in Agile Methodology (SCRUM) for improving reliability of the systems and procedures in 3 breweries (Alrode, Rosslyn and Chamdor) to standardize and prevent their top 3 incidents that lead to loss in production.
Achievement: • Six Sigma - White Belt Certification • Led team to successfully upgrade Wonderware SCADA from 2012 to 2014 without assistance from manufacturer. • Managed migration of virtual servers from Gen8 mature cluster to Gen10 new cluster without causing any downtime to Alrode. • Managed team with assistance from Solutions team for successfully implementation of Brewery of the Future initiatives at Alrode.


ABInBev (Previously known as South African Breweries) Position: Process Control Engineer Period: 04 June 2015 – 30 September 2019 Role and Responsibilities: Based at SAB Alrode (Biggest brewery In Africa) • Facilitation, implementation and project management of automation and control systems projects to satisfy the requirements of production within budget and timelines. • Identified and motivated technical CAPIN justification. • Ensured the integrity and reliability of production systems software and hardware from PLC devices to ERP system. • Developed and maintained all systems components documentation as well as its integrity. • Coached, guided and assisted with training of all production employees. • Assisted with ensuring that the system architecture environment remained aligned with the regional manufacturing systems standards and beer division standards. • Continuous Improvement of software, maintenance and fault-finding knowledge within production. • Supported change management process. • Implemented effective problem solving to improve productive of plant. • Upgraded AOS, GR and Top server licencing. • Maintaining of Hyper V virtualised cluster. • Experience on ACP thin manager and clients. • Supporting RSBatch V12.01. Achievement:
• Employee of the Quarter – January 2016 • More than halved software breakdown downtime in Brewing by continuously tracking breakdowns and then fixing software issues to prevent them from occurring again. • Focus improvement in Filtration to bring down beer loss and increase Filter Core run lengths which led to increase in cost saving and decrease in Macro Extract Loss. • Continuous suggestions for process improvement. • Focus improvement in Plant Micro Index in Alrode Brewery. • Certified in Siemens TIA Portal Level 1 and 2.


 Business Connexion (Previously known as Quad Automation) Position: Lead Engineer Period: 15 October 2007 – 31 May 2015 Projects: Based at Hudson & Knight Refinery in Unilever Boksburg • Upgraded 4 PLC’s from old standards to Quad Automation’s standards of software. • Programmed PLC’s using Allen Bradley software ( RSLogix 5000 V15 – V19) • Scheduling of control net. • Converted SCADA mimics from RSView to Wonderware. ( Archestra 3.0 and Intouch 10.0) • Was involved in populating objects, creating graphics on objects, scripting of field attributes. • Trained operators to work and understand Wonderware SCADA. • Was involved in upgrading SCADA system to Wonderware. Hudson & Knight have 3500 I/O and 9 client applications. • Quad Automation has a support contract with Hudson & Knight where I remote support the plant (24, 7) for 3 weeks of every month. I have been doing this for the past 4 years. • Worked on RSBatch. Created recipes, edited tags, active step changing etc. • Upgrade RSBatch V5.0 to RSBatch V11.0 • Have been exposed to Microsoft SQL server database, store procedures and database querying. • Create and manage maintenance plans for SQL databases. • Setup and configure Management Information Systems (MIS) and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) servers. • Worked with Wonder ware MES Client 4.0. Configured items, processes and operations in MES client. Created BOM’s and specifications for recipes. • Setup servers with Microsoft OS of Server 2003 and 2008. • Certified Wonderware developer for Archestra 4.0. • Recently upgraded SCADA system to Archestra 3.1 and Intouch 10.1. • Involved constantly in designing and improving of the software so the plant works to its maximum capacity. Continuously upgrade software in the plant as small projects arise. • Assist Process Engineers in analysing process and software in order to bring about innovations. • Quote, plan and design projects to customer specifications. Ensure that standards and timelines are adhered to. • Since Business Connexion has been in charge of software and support contract, this refinery has been voted NUMBER ONE REFINERY in Simedarby (Malaysian Owned Company) for the last 2 years.
