Moeketsi Moticoe

My career began in 2004 working as a freelance Photographer and Writer for Hype magazine. Later that year I worked with the United Nations (UN) in Johannesburg on a joint exhibition based on African refugees living in South Africa. Following that year I joined The Star newspaper as a freelance Photojournalist, and two years later I joined The Times newspaper as a junior Photojournalist and a Multimedia Content Producer specialising in News and Entertainment storytelling. I have been invited as main speaker and facilitator on Photojournalism and visual storytelling seminars at Vega School of Branding, Alf Khumalo Photo Academy and the Market Photo Workshop School of Photography in Johannesburg. Following that I moved to Cape Town and joined Sunday Times Newspaper as a senior Photojournalist, and Multimedia Producer for TimesLive. Soon after that my work received its first international recognition at the Recontres d’Arles in France. Later showcasing my work at Addis Foto festival in Ethiopia. Furthermore I traveled to Europe and documented street fashion in Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin, and later hosted my solo exhibition at Misael gallery in Cape Town.

Years later I exhibited my work in a joint Photographic exhibition in California, USA. The same year I was chosen to showcase my work at the Bomako Encounters at Cinémathèque du Musée National in Paris. Following that I Co-Founded Artistic Eye Learner program and had the first leg completed in Cape Town, SA and the second one in San Francisco, USA. Simultaneously I worked as a school Portrait Photographer for MugsyClicks Schools Pictures Agency in San Francisco. Following that I hosted a street Photo exhibition "No Idea", showcasing street fashion in Johannesburg. Later I was invited to present my fashion work at the Photo/Film expo at the Dome in Johannesburg. 

I was then later invited as the only African photographer called to join the judging panel at the Nikon Photo-Film Contest International in Tokyo, Japan. Later I was appointed as the Nikon Ambassador for Africa. Following that I launched Eye See Africa project, hosting workshops at Constitutional Hill in Johannesburg, SA and MOCA in Nairobi, Kenya. In 2017 I joined EyeWitness News in Cape Town as the Multimedia Content Editor. I am currently the Founder | Photographer and Multimedia Content Producer at Studio Moeks, working between Johannesburg and Cape Town. 

I have been fortunate enough to have gained work experience in the media space for almost two decades now, and I have learnt immensely about Photography and Visual Storytelling, Photojournalism and Multimedia Content Production. I have been blessed enough to have worked for both Print and Online media publications, as well as brief experience working on TV and Radio platforms exclusively. I have worked on creating impactful Picture essays and audio-visual documentaries from hard news to fashion and daily life features. My successful approach is due to having a a distinctive eye, a warm heart and a great creative mind. My practiced understanding of working with the magic of natural light to create engaging images. As well as the ability to understand how to use different forms of digital media to tell compelling multimedia stories. I have been blessed enough to have published my photos in local and international magazines and newspapers, exhibited my work locally and internationally as well as featuring works on published books.

I have expanded my knowledge, skills and experience by working as a Photography Workshop Facilitator, creating unique workshops and teaching basic photography to young scholars in Cape Town and Silicon Valley, USA, as well as the Youth in Johannesburg, and Nairobi, Kenya. I have also worked as a Multimedia Content Editor, managing a team of Multimedia Content Journalists to producing high quality news and Multimedia videos and pictures for EyeWitness News online platform. I have also been invited to form part of the judging panel on Nikon's International Photo and Video Contest in Tokyo, Japan and subsequently made their Brand Ambassador to Africa.

My overall experience and personal love for Photography, News and storytelling as a whole has gained me great leadership, people and project management skills. I'm a team player with a diverse range of people, and up to date with current social and news affairs. Without any doubt, I can be a valuable asset as a formidable Photographer and a Multimedia Producer to join your team.
